IPL 6: Day 36–Raina powers CSK to qualifiers…

May 9, 2013 at 1:38 am (Cricket, IPL, IPL 2013, IPL 6) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi…

As expected Chennai became the first team to qualify for the play offs. Sun risers won the toss and decided to field first. But Sanga’s decision to bowl first was good for just first 6 balls. Murali Vijay then took Ishant for hat trick of sixes. Later he departed, Hussey & raina displayed a subliminal form of batting. A pleasure it was when Raina was striking it exactly in the covers of off side where field will not be able to get too. Raina finished the innings with a boundary and left stranded in 99*. CSK scoring a mammoth 223/4 in 20 overs.. Sunrisers never looked like chasing at any point of time, Dhawan was the man who could have pulled out some miracles but spot on Dhoni removed him cheaply, later it was a procession and CSK sealed the deal as the time passed.

Chennai Super Kings won the match by 77 runs…

Dhoni won the coin finally and decided to bat first, CSK brought Hussey back in place of Kulasekara, a costly replacement, considering the bowling weakness of CSK. Batting being the strength, CSK should have delivered for their bowlers, but on the contrary openers went too soon than expected, later Raina along with Dhoni tried to make amends in their own slow way, which in final yielded only 139/5 in 20 overs. KKR bowler were so much disciplined in their line & length, along with excellent fielding, they had CSK on the verge all the times.

Match 41

As always McCullum gone to an another off spinner, this time its local boy Ashwin, Morkel bowled well with pace, but both Kallis & Gambhir looked in ease in rotating the strikes and made target to look more simpler than it was.  After 70 runs partnership between both, Kallis departed bit early, Gambhir got himself out, when 16 runs need, Deba Das new entrant kept himself cool to knock 11 off those in 4 balls to get a important win at this juncture.

Hi Guys,

Match 52, Almost like an quarterfinals, Both CSK and Royals who ever takes this game is almost certain to make it to the final four, even if they lose their following games. What’s spl about champions, They come good when it matters, of course it was the day for CSK, as out of form Murali Vijay came back to form and looked beyond his fifty, but blame goes to lazy running as he lost by inches, Late surge from Dhoni & co took Chennai to 196/3 in 20 overs. Chasing almost 10 runs an over right from the word go wasn’t easy for any team, esp if u face someone like Bollinger, Morkel and Ashwin. And its too much for Royals as they kept losing the important wickets at the wrong times, Rahane was the only man who showed some resistance, who also picked up his fifty, But it wasn’t enough as Royals were bowled out for 133 with 3 balls remaining. CSK won the match by 63 runs. This win not only give CSK the most needed 2 points but net run rate sore past KKR to go up SPOT 2…

IPL 3: Day 14 Review…

March 26, 2010 at 12:05 am (IPL, IPL 3) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi guys,

Its Day 14 in IPL 3…

Match 20 Review:
Royal Challengers Bangalore Vs Delhi Daredevils

After losing 3 straight games Delhi will certainly look to get back in the winning ways, but they will take on the team which really performing at his best. Still Gambhir is not back, which meant Dinesh Karthik walked out for toss along with Jumbo in his home ground. Kumble won the toss and decided to bowl first. Warner got Delhi off to a flyer, Even Shewag looked so silent on the other end.  Dale steyn was taken taken to blues, n his first over, but he came back strong to pick the man who tormented him, Warner… in another 10 balls space, Shewag departed for 12 in 11 balls… Strange to see… De villers and Karthik kept scoring runs from both ends and runrate was quite good over 9 all the time. Birthday man, Kedar Jhadev made his debut today walked in to replace Karthik after a misfortunate run out.  Oh boy, he did play a splendid innings, Good looking shots all over the ground, in the last over he did score his Maiden Fifty. Late flourish McDonald ensured DD went past 180 runs. With 20 oves down, DD 183/4…

DD 183/4 in 20 overs.

K.Jhadav 50*                DE Villers  45
Vinay Kumar 1/29         Steyn 1/42

RCB 166/9 in 20 overs.

Pandey 39             Kohli 38*
A.Mishra 2/23    McDonald 2/42

DD WON THE MATCH BY 17 RUNS.

RCB certainly need a good start from their openers, which is always provided bu Kallis and Pandey. Today wasn’t an exception as both put on a very good partnership of 71 runs for the first wicket. Kallis departed for 27 to a very good delivery from Mishra. Shud i call this a twist of the game….? That’s how it looked, just bcos it triggered a huge collapse in the RCB, within the space 2 overs, array of wickets were down and RCB collapsed to 90/4 losing their top 4. Surely shud mention the bowling of Delhi, as they really bowled to the field and didnt allow Bangalore to bring the runrate down. Just to mention Kohli, Morgan tried to do something but it wasn’t to be…  Ending 166/9 in 20 overs, which meant they fell short of 17 runs.  Bangalore lost their 2 match of this season and Delhi put a hold to their losing streak.

Match 21 Review:
Chennai Super Kings Vs Mumbai Indians

The most strong team without doubt, its Mumbai Indians without doubt as they have all the things a T20 team needs… They Bat really deep almost till 10 with the availability of Zaheer and Bhajji to help out, coming to bowling Malinga and Zaheer two best Depth Bowlers without doubt, with the glimpse of Bravo, Bhajji and Mclaren bowling is really solid. Apart from this they have a fielding coach who previously coached Indian team… Robin Singh… So it shud be ok… Which means if u wanna call a Pakka Solid team then here it is…

I think i said too much abt MI’s…. Whatever with a huge cheer Sachin won the toss and decided to bowl first.  Hayden sans Mangoose walked with Parthiv walked the ground. First over was quite cool, but things heated up when Hayden decided to take on Zak, just like 2003 world cup where he smashed him… Hayden smashed here for 4 consecutive boundaries, when he decided to bring Mangoose in, Bhajji spinned one back fast to trap him right infront of the stumps. In space of another 6 balls, Patel went back to hut… Can say tats the last time Mumbai crowd cheered for a wicket, bcos, from then two men took the charge and never looked getting dismissed at any point, they did use the pace, gaps and ran very well between the wickets and mainly they made sure they get a good score on board. With 20 overs down, CSK scored 180/2, Raina on 83* and Badrinath on 55*… With a staggering partnership of 142 from 94 balls…

CSK 180/2 in 20 overs.

S.Raina 85*            Badrinath 55*
Bhajji 1/25         McLaren 1/23

MI 184/5 in 19 overs.

Sachin 72           Dhawan 56
Murali 2/32     Joginder 1/22

MI WON THE MATCH BY 5 WICKETS.

Chasing a score of 181 is tough for any team but as i have already mentioned in the beginning, its easy for this team, with the glimpse of Sachin, Bravo, Pollard and young indians Tare, Tiwari…. Its shud be a chase able one 8 out of 10 times. Tendulkar and Dhawan started the things good, and with the help from CSK’s bowling, scored came faster than expected, and Dhawan’s aggressive mood got past them 63  in the powerplay overs. And finally CSK broke the partnership just b4 the strategic timeout. Jakathi being the bowler, and very next over, Spin Maestro Murali sent back Tiwary for just a couple… CSK felt they were right back in the game. Is this the twist we are looking for….? Not so, Just bcos Sachin along with Pollard, and bravo made sure they get past the winning rope safely.  Not to mention the bowling performance of CSK, the worst ever seen in the IPL so far… If some had counted the no.of Full Toss they bowled, Pls let me know, i ll add up in the interesting facts… None other than Murali was convincing for a T20 game… Hope Venkatesh Prasad and Stephen Fleming had a point to note in their Black book….

IPL 3: DAY 12 Review…

March 24, 2010 at 12:39 pm (IPL, IPL 3) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi guys,

Its DAY 12 in IPL 3…

Match 18 Review:
Chennai Super Kings Vs Royal Challengers Bangalore

Raina won the toss and decided to Bowl first,  And drama started right from the very over, as Morkel and whole CSK unsuccessfully appealed for a caught behind decision for J.Kallis. (Hope all know, he is yet to be dismissed in Season 3)…  Later in the second over of Morkel Balaji seems to miss the ball in the crowd and give a reprieve for kallis again. Pandey on the other end, just kept on scoring runs in normal pace, After putting down the catch Balaji came in to bowl and Oh boy, didn’t he create history here, he just dismissed Kallis after being not out for 12 days in IPL 3…  Dravid joined Pandey and displayed few classy shots before failing to cut a delivery towards backward point.  Murali came back again to remove Pandey this time… Spin master became the purple cap owner with this wicket… He could have picked one more and very imp of Uthappa if Ashwin had holded on to one reverse sweep from him,..  CSK fielding lapse proved very costly as Uthappa being the switched to thrashing mode in the last 3 overs, and cleared the fence in ease. Which ensured RCB finished their innings with 171/5… Bowling Murali mantra was the best without any doubt, Morkel was as best in Pace…

RCB 171/5 in 20 overs.

Uthappa 68      Kohli  24
Murali 3/25         Morkel 1/28

CSK 135/7 in 20 overs.

Hayden 32                Badrinath 31
Vinay Kumar 4/40    Kumble 1/15

RCB WON THE MATCH BY 36 RUNS.

Chasing a score of 172 CSK needed one of their best starts, but it didn’t happen and parthiv was out in the very first over, later both Hayden and Bailey was kept really quite by RCB’s brilliant bowling, both weren’t given any room to free their arms at any stage, which meant CSK did score only 29 runs in first 6 power play overs. Run rate kept increasing all over the time and occasional boundary and six doesnt seems to bring it down… Finally Hayden brought in Mangoose to get 3 consecutive boundaries of kallis, but his surge was halted by a unexpected runout in 10th over, later Bailey agony too got over with a good moving away delivery from vinay kumar. Req runrate was never under the control of CSK, as skipper, Vijay, Badri, Morkel and Ashwin just played their part to end up in the losing side, full credit to RCB bowlers, as their line and length was spot on and they did make CSK work for every run… In the end RCB won the match by 36 runs, last two over of CSK went for 41 runs which really made the difference in the game… Without any doubt Robin Uthappa was the man of the match for his Match winning knock 68*.

Standings as on DAY 12:

IPL 3: Day 8 Review…

March 20, 2010 at 12:11 am (IPL, IPL 3) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi Guys,

Its Day 8 in IPL, and its a friday, which means its a Double Header…

Match 11 Review:

Chennai Super Kings Vs Delhi Daredevils

Chennai having won the previous game will look to continue it, but the main thing will be, they will not have their Skipper Dhoni with them, to save them this time. Raina takes the skipper position till he returns.

Delhi’s stand in skipper Karthik called for heads and got it to bat first, David warner got the place of Gambhir, but he didnt do justice to his position as he got to a very poor shot.  But it lend the way for Dilshan, (without any doubt two best opening batsmen in crease) and they did stick together another 7 overs, which meant scored jumped on shewag rampage 101/1… Call it a twist or a turning point, Magic Man Murali picked both the batsmen in the very same 12th over, never to miss out the gr8 catch from Justin Kemp (shud say catch of the tournament so far)… Few lusty blows from Karthik, Bhatia and Manhas got the Delhi to a really good score of 185/6 at the end of 20 overs…

DD 185/6 in 20 overs.

Shewag 74          M.Manhas 32*
Balaji 2/21      Muralitharan 2/25

CSK 190/5 in 19.1 overs.

M.Hayden 93    Raina 49*
D.Nannes 1/18    Mishra 1/25

CSK WON MATCH BY 5 WICKETS.

Chasing over a runrate of 9.5 isn’t always easy, without having a good start, and it didn’t happen as Parthiv Patel ran himself out in the very second over. Which got Badrinath and MONGOOSE in…. Yep, Hayden did swith to Mangoose bat for the first time, oh it really looked like a toy in his hands, those who have seen it, would know what i am referring…

And Mangoose is really powerful in the hands of Haydos, as he went to bombard Delhi with a very small weapon. No one was able to stop him, he scored either six or a boundary of every bowler who bowled at him, few lucky one got both in the same… 🙂 Hayden finally got out to a very good catch in long on, but failing to make his IPL maiden Century… Rest relayed on Raina and stand in skipper realised his role very well and did play a sensible innings, first with Haydos, then a short period with Morkel,Kemp and Vijay, and finally launched one over extra cover for a six to seal the match for CSK… Kudos to Raina for a responsible innings.

Match 12 Review:
Kings XI Punjab Vs Deccan Chargers

A important game for Kings XI as they will look to make debut in the points table and Deccan’s would like to join the points table with four all. A home away home for Deccan’s (Telengana Fiasco) cuttack hosted its first ever IPL match.

Sangakarra won the Toss and a gold coin (which is used for tossing) and decided to field first. Gilly Started the things off as he is used to. Went for shots and scored quickly before moving back to pavillion, score card read 43/1 after 3 overs.  Next over had a (another Injury….?) crazy throw from srivatsava, forcing laxman to retire from the scene for the rest of the day. Symonds and Gibbs continue to harvest runs from all the bowlers, esp sreessanth… By the end of 10 overs they were exactly 100/1. But the so called twist came in the very next over from the hands of Yuvi, as he sent back two batsmen quickly back to hut, and another one followed the very next over. Score was 113/4 from 12 overs. Symonds went on to score his 50 and finally fell exactly like hayden catch… Suman and Vass played a cameo to put DC to a total of 170/7 in 20 overs. Certainly Gilly would haveexpected 10 to 15 runs more… Yuvi being the only pick of the bowler as he picked 2 crucial wickets.

DC 170/7 in 20 overs.

Symonds 53          Gilchrist 33
Yuvaraj 2/21      Pathan 1/16

KXIP 164/8 in 20 overs.

Pathan 60         Bopara 38
C.Vaas 2/27   Rohit 1/19

DC WON MATCH BY 6 RUNS.

Looking to set the none lost record, KXIP started their innings dreadfully, and once again its Vaas being the tormentor. He said his fellow team Skipper (Sangakarra), why SL still need a new ball bowler like him to make early in roads. Sanga had no clue to a inner cutter and went back looking his timber disarrayed.  And in came Yuvi, it clearly showed he is out of form and he very soon looped one over covers and Gibbs isn’t the one who will miss those. Later Barath,Jayawardene, Bopara all did take a walk without troubling the scores much. Its all down under for KXIP and Preity seems to have sarcastic smile in her face. But another Pathan (read as Irfan Pathan) inspired by his half brother seems to turn the luck towards KXIP with some violent blows all over the stadium, and it seemed he almost pulled a dead rubber before holding out in the throat of Symonds in the last over. Not before scaring Deccan’s for a short period of time. He made 60 off just 29 balls. Finally KXIP handed out their first defeat against Deccan’s falling short off 6 runs…

Standings as on DAY 8:
