Hi…

Just two games left for this season of IPL, and one is here today, Qualifier 2 between Underdogs Rajasthan taking on Mighty Mumbai Indians. Mumbai missing out against CSK will have a second chance to make it to finals, spirited Royals will look to make to the finals for the second time in their IPL career.

Qualifier 2, Dravid won the toss and decided to bat first, as always Dravid & Rahane gave a decent start of 44 runs for the first wicket before Rahane sweeps one between legs of Harbhajan to be castled. Quick two wicket in 8th & 9th over pushed Royals back, Dravid & Binny struck for a brief moment before Dravid was out to a loose shot off Bhajji again. However Yagnik & Hodge again propelled royals to a good score of 165 with some innovative shots. Bhajji was the star for Mumbai as he picked three crucial wickets & two important catches to add.

Needing 166 to win, Mumbai got off to a best start you could ask for, both Tare & destructive smith put on 70 runs in 9 overs. Later was dismissed off copper for 35. Karthik tied ends with Smith to continue the chase. Sudden surge of wickets gave Dravid’s Men a thin line of hope but Rayudu held his nerve to score 15 runs of penultimate over from Cooper, which almost sealed the game for Mumbai. However Rishi Dhawan first ball paddle sweep made it sure that Mumbai will face Chennai for the second time in IPL finals. Will it be Chennai again or Mighty Mumbai will lift the cup for the first ever time…? Answer has to be awaited till Sunday…

Mumbai Indians won the match 4 wickets with 1 ball to spare…

IPL 6: Day 50 Eliminator–Hodgey special get Royals to Qualifier…

May 23, 2013 at 1:16 am (Cricket, IPL, IPL 2013, IPL 6) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi…

Eliminator it is as the name sounds, Team who loses today will get a knockout blow for this season, Winner will meet Mumbai in Kolkata for the Qualifier 2.

Sunrisers Won the toss and decided to bat first, Not off to a ideal start lost their inform opener Parthiv & Vihari cheaply as the scoreboard read 2 for 3 in 2.3 overs. Dhawan & White played the restructuring innings with a fifty partnership between both, but it came very slowly which help Royals to keep their nose ahead at all point. However Sammy gave the much needed impetus to up the scoring rate, but it was halted by one of the superp runout from the deep. Few lusty blows from Perara & Samantray helped SRH to post yet another 130+ score, 132/7 in 20 overs.

Royals will know its a tricky chase always especially with SRH bowling’s fire power. Dravid started of confidently scoring three boundaries before leading edged to point. Watson continued from where Dravid left, kept the run rate moving with few powerful blows over fence and to fence. However SRH came back strongly by picking one wicket in every over from 7-10. Which meant Royals are 57/5 in 10 overs. Samson & Hodge in the crease. Both played a singles innings for a while, Once Hodge felt he had his Eye in, he started going for shot which proved vital to keep the run rate under check at all time. Once you think game sailing towards Royals, Came Steyn to remove Samson. But Hodge & Faulkner in the the crease made sure they are crossing the line safely. It is Hodge in the end who hit the winning runs with two back to back sixes and making a mockery Pacifier. Underdogs now has two more steps to be the champs…

IPL 6: Day 45– Amit Mishra helps Sunriser’s to set one foot on Playoff’s…

May 17, 2013 at 11:39 pm (Cricket, IPL, IPL 2013, IPL 6) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi..

Been a gap in the IPL updates, heavy travel, troubled heath kept me away from the updates for a while. Happy to be back…

A very important game for Sunrisers to keep them in the hunt of Playoff’s position. Cameron white won the toss and decided to Bat first, and he would have thought a dreadful start even in dreams as SRH lost Dhawan, Parthiv & Cameron White for just 5 on the board. Vihari along with Samantray steadied a bit, before going for a skier. Sammy joined Samantray and scored very important 56 runs between them, Late strike from Perara made sure Sunrisers scored 136/9 in 20 overs. Bowling star was Faulkner who picked up his second 5 wickets haul against Sunrisers for the second time for this season. Chasing 130+ was never easy in the Hyderabad pitch and it proved to be again. Dravid had a good opening but apart from him everyone else struggled in the pitch. No one from Rajasthan got going, last minute rush from Kevon Cooper made sure Royals didn’t lose it big. In end Royals were strangled at 113/9 in 20 overs.  A Spell of 4-0-8-2 from Amit Mishra which proved too much for Royals in the end.

Sun Risers Hyderabad won the match by 23 runs…

Standings as on DAY 45:

IPL 6: Day 37–Cooper’s Slower delivery & Gambhir’s late fifty highlights the day…

May 10, 2013 at 12:37 am (Cricket, IPL, IPL 2013, IPL 6) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi…

A very important game for three side to be in playoff’s on a double header day.

Game 1, KXIP took on Royals, both needing a win, especially KXIP. Dravid won the coin and decided to field first as he always wanted to be. KXIP lost Mandeep Singh in the very first over, which meant Skipper Gilly who is back in the side has to put down his natural game and has to consolidate with his country man Marsh. That’s what happened as both put on a century stand but in 13 overs, not very much likely for a destructive pair. None other than these were worth mentioning as KXIP ended less than par score of 145/6 in 20 overs. Cooper picked a 3/23 in 4 overs. Dravid went early with just 5 runs on the board, But Rahane & Watson continued their good form to build a platform of 66 runs between which allowed Sanju samson along with Rahane to finish the match with an over to spare. This win also means Royals are almost into playoff, provided some one doesn’t play a bluff.

Rajasthan Royals won the match 8 wickets with 6 balls to spare…

Game 2, KKR needed a win just to keep their mathematical hope alive as KXIP lost the previous match. Skipper Gambhir finally played a more sensible innings along with Ten Doeschate to keep KKR scoreboard moving Late strike from Bhatia & Tiwary made sure KKR crossed 150, as they ended 152/6 in 20 overs. As usual Pune continued to display a poor & pathetic performance with bat. Uthappa & Mathews scored couple of 30’s apart from that nothing to highlight in the Pune’s batting card.

Kolkata Knight Riders won the match by 46 runs…

Standings as on DAY 37:

Hi…

Game 1, Rajasthan Royals took on Delhi, Once again a dismal performance by Delhi made it so simple for Rajasthan who have been chasing comfortably for this season, esp in Jaipur. Delhi even after a big effort from Debutant Ben Rohrer scoring 63* Delhi ended up with  154/4 in 20 overs. Just like last game both Rahane & Skipper Dravid continued the partnership this time little extended to reach a century between both for the first time. Dravid departed after laying a winning platform. Watson just had some runs to score of, which he did effectively with 14 ball 28 to win the game.

Rajasthan Royals won the match 9 wickets with 13 balls to spare…

Game 2, KKR literally on the verge of exit, need to win this game to be mathematically present in the IPL context. Sachin started off the Mumbai Innings with flurry of boundaries, Even though he was dismissed, Rohit & Dinseh made sure runs are coming thick & fast. With a very good last over to end MI at 170/6 in 20 overs. KKR started their chase in a disastrous fashion to lose the skipper for 0. Situation didn’t improve much even after the incident.  Mumbai Indians made it look like a one sided game for themselves. Easy winning by 65 runs,

Hi…

Game 1, Table topper CSK take on Mumbai, in Mumbai. Sachin & Smith started off slowly in a two paced wicket, Good bowling from CSK always kept Mumbai under control and picked wickets at regular intervals. Late surge from Rohit sharma & Harbhajan gave Mumbai a decent total of 139/5 in 20 overs. It looked like a easy chase for CSK who were on a roll, but it wasn’t to be even after Pollard dropping thrice Michael Hussey in the three consecutive balls of the first over. Johnson came back in his second over and picked three important wickets to put CSK under pressure. However CSK failed to rise from the slump and dived deeper as they tried to rescue. At one point they were probable of even posting the lowest ever IPL score 58 runs, but somehow got out and ended on 79 all out with almost 28 balls to spare.

Mumbai Indians won the match by 60 runs…

Game 2, Royals host Pune this time very important game for royals as they the mid table crisis heats up after every game. Uthappa continued from the last game, played some sublime strokes through off side. Finch well supported him to get 97 runs opening partnership. Marsh & Matthews made sure the opening stand score is justified with a good finish as PWI ended 178/4 in 20 overs. Needing almost 9 runs an over Dravid opened with Rahane, in fact both a gave a treat to cricket lovers by playing classical cover drives, Straight drive, Lofted straight sixes. It was romance between Bat & Ball and everyone enjoyed to core. However as both departed quickly and the followed foreigners wasn’t able to do what they should but It was Sanju Samson & Stuart Binny who helped Royals cross the line with a ball to spare.

May 3, 2013 at 11:40 pm (Cricket, IPL, IPL 2013, IPL 6) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi…

I never thought I would write the top heading for this season, that what it looked like, it was just time before KKR team would have decided to make Hard hitting Yusuf Pathan sit in bench but it was not to be.

Defending Champions need to win all their remaining games to qualify for Play off. Royals won the toss and decided to Bat first, a slow start but strange & bizarre tactics fro Dravid kept the runs in bay and wickets kept on falling without anyone consolidating the fall. Dravid coming at no.8 didn’t help any cause. KKR also bowled well and kept the pressure always. Royals trying to defend 133 runs, started off well by picking 2 quick wickets but that it, Both Kallis & Yusuf Pathan ensured they crossed the line without any more fuss. Pathan got almost close a Half century and missed by a run, when Kallis struck a boundary when team need 3 runs of 18 balls.

Kolkata Knight Riders won the match by 8 wickets with 16 balls to spare…

Standings as on DAY 31:

IPL 6: Day 25–Fiery Faulkner & Muscly Smith does it…

April 28, 2013 at 1:52 am (Cricket, IPL, IPL 2013, IPL 6) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi…

Double Header Weekend is back…

First Game, Rajasthan made it much more simpler than I could right here… Faulkner, Chandila & Cooper bowled excellently to reduce SRH to 29/6 in 6 overs after choosing to bat first. Just when they thought SRH may not even cross fifty, Thanks again to Mishra & Darren Sammy who played the game of his life to bring them back in game with his hard fought 60 runs. SRH finished at 144 runs, more than they should have actually got for a kind of start they had. Rahane didn’t make much impression but Skipper & Binny played a supporting role to One Man Army Watson to score 98* blistering runs to win the match in ease.

Rajasthan Royals won the match by 8 wickets with 13 balls to spare…

Second game, If i just said first was no contest, this was quite a contest till Gayle was dismissed, then one word Dismal… Mumbai started off with a blast, Pollard, Karthik & Bhajji in the end made sure Mumbai got to a highest score against RCB 194 runs in 20 overs. Then began the real Battle, walked in the Predator with his heavy swing arms, but Mitchell Johnson & Malinga were on par with their bowling skills to keep him in the Bay, But it was the Turbanator who picked up the Predator. Once he left, procession followed and in the end 8th wicket partnership between Ravi Rampaul & Vinay Kumar reduced the deficit by 51 run partnership, which made sure RCB went on to lose their 3 away game as well.

Mumbai Indians won the match by 58 runs…

Interesting Stats IPL 6 Day 25:

– 7th, 8th and 9th wickets for Sunrisers scored 115 runs in the game against Rajasthan which is the highest for Sunrisers for these wickets.

– 5/20 by James Faulkner is the best performance for him in IPL career. It is also the best bowling figures for this season of IPL bettering Sunil Narine’s 4/13.

– 60 runs scored is the highest score for Darren Sammy, previous was 41*.

– This is 7th time for the 7th wicket partnership has crossed fifty runs in IPL career.

– 29/6 is the second lowest score by any team in IPL so far, List is topped by Kochi’s 11/6. Ironically that has also happened exactly on the same day 27th April.

IPL 6: Day 20– Aggressive Hussey floors Watto power…

April 23, 2013 at 1:51 am (Cricket, IPL, IPL 2013, IPL 6) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi…

A Game of D’s, Dhoni Vs Dravid, Mass Vs Class… Always a treat to watch this combination for any cricket lover and definitely for me too…Dravid won the Toss and decided to Bat first, A simple one liner was the royals batting, Just Watson show all the way, Showed no mercy to any bowler ad he hardly worried about what length or line they bowled, Sheer display of Watto Powerhouse which allowed him to go past first century mark in this season of IPL. Binny and other Rajasthan players played around him to get to a score of 185 runs in 20 overs.

Chasing 185+ is always tough for any team and if one team could do with ease then it has to be CSK with the kind of batting line up they have, Only problem for them is Raina & Badrinath have not come to form yet. But it gave an opportunity today to the Later to get back his golden knick with bat, who scored his first six in this season IPL & first fifty of this season. Raina also empowered Hussey all the way who looked aggressive right from the word go and always kept the required run rate under control. At one stage when Dravid pulled a stunning run out & wickets of Jadeja + Dhoni trickled a small confusion in the CSK dugout, but Bravo ensured to clear the ropes comfortably once in the last over to get past the win line in style with a ball to spare…

Chennai Super Kings won the match by 5 wickets with 1 ball to spare…

Interesting Stats IPL 6 Day 20:

– Shane Watson scored the first century of this season of IPL; it is also the 25th century for IPL tournament in all seasons.

– Shane Watson’s Century is also the fourth one for a Rajasthan Royal Player.

– Out of 7 innings Murali Vijay is out for a single digit in 4 of them.

– 58 runs scored by CSK in the powerplay overs is the highest for them in this season.

– This season has been made to wait longest to get the first century (30 matches), previous season was the slowest which took 18 matches.

– This is the first time Rajasthan Royals have lost a match when they have scored more than 162 runs, their record stands 15 – 0 till today, as now it will be rewritten as 15-1.

– Suresh Raina scored his 15th IPL fifty and also his first six for this season.

– Chennai has chased 5 times (including today) the score anything above 185+ and lost 3 times.

– Ravindra Jadeja scored his 3rd IPL duck and first as a Chennai Super King.

– 49 runs conceded by Kevon Cooper is the highest in any T20 international game.

– This is fourth time in IPL out of 25 occasions an IPL century has ended up in a losing side, previous century scorer are Symonds, Yusuf Pathan, Tendulkar & now Watson.

– Michael Hussey became the second player after Virat Kohli to breach 300 runs mark for this season.

– Both 185 runs target set yesterday by PWI and today by RR are achieved by chasing team exactly in the penultimate ball of the match, this is also the second match for CSK to win a game with just a ball to spare.

IPL 6: Day 18–Sir “RJ’s” Roar & Vinay’s breeze soothe the day…

April 20, 2013 at 11:42 pm (Cricket, IPL, IPL 2013, IPL 6) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi…

Weekend and you get a double header… Yes, when everyone looking over 150’s & 160’s, Just as Ravi Shastri says in air, Just what the doctor ordered for the day is score of 120’s it is…

KKR took on CSK who was looking well set, Gambhir won the coin and decided to Bat first, started off well infact as they brought a surprise element of Yusuf Pathan opening with Gambhir, not a bad ploy as they got to a partnership of 46 runs, before young Hussey halted the process with a stunner in third man. Followed some sign of madness from KKR and sheer brilliance in fielding from CSK to struck a killer blow in KKR to end up with 119/9 in 20 overs. Where they were 46/1 in 5.5 overs, 73 runs from 85 balls later bowled. Just as KKR surprised, CSK surprised with a new opener Ravi Ashwin in front, Innovation is fine, but Batting innovation from CSK mates were not quite enough to pull the game easily from KKR. Not to leave KKR also bowled well and picked important wickets at right time. As always no worries as SIR RJ is in the team, as he finished the game with a well composed innings of 36 from 14 balls. He also with ball picked 3 wickets and had two catches while fielding. Can u just take him out of the game…?

Chennai Super Kings won the match by 4 wickets with 5 balls to spare…

Another game, Homecoming for Rajasthan Skipper Dravid still he would liked a win for his team, But Rajasthan were simply outplayed in all department, except for some part where Binny & Dravid played some good innings between them, Royals had nothing to cheer about as they ended just  one run lesser than KKR scored in the first game. 118/9 in 20 overs.  Easy Chase for a team with the like’s of Gayle,Kohli & ABD, Lost two of those mentioned names cheaply but Man in front lead with a sensible knock to go past the winning line. Vinay Kumar picked 3 important wickets to pick the MOM award.

Royal Challengers Bangalore won the match by 7 wickets with 13 balls to spare…

– 11 runs scored by Ashwin equalled his best score in IPL career.

– 47 balls between 7.5 to 15.5 overs, CSK had not scored a boundary, highest by any other team in this season of IPL.

– 70 runs scored by CSK in 15 overs is the lowest score they have made in this season so far.

– It is 4th time CSK Skipper Dhoni was Run Out in his 73 games for CSK.

– CSK have never lost a game when they were chasing anything less than 120 runs, and in fact this is 3rd time.

– 119 runs by KKR is the lowest for them this season, which just below 125 which they scored against SRH.

– This is first time in T20 career Kallis is out for a Diamond Duck (which means out without facing even a single ball, mostly Run outs).

– KKR have never won a game in Kolkata against CSK, now the record stands 5-0.

– Ajit Chandila scored his first runs in IPL career.

– Both KKR & RR started the match with a boundary of the very first ball of the match, and ironically both ended up scoring less than 120.

– Shane Watson bowled his first over in 2013 in any format, and to his joy, he picked Dilshan edging to keeper in the fourth ball of the same over.

– This is the first time Gayle has gone past 40 run mark without even hitting a single Six.
