IPL 6: Day 46–Azhar’s Heroics & Kohli’s Aggression for the day…

May 19, 2013 at 1:05 am (Cricket, IPL, IPL 2013, IPL 6) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi…

Game 1, Last game in cricket field for the Australian Wicket keeping legend Gilchrist. Rohit won the toss and decided to field first, Both the openers didn’t make a big impression as they departed with 6 on the board. It was left to Azhar Mahmood & Marsh to take the KXIP into safety, which they both did perfectly with timed aggression with a partnership of 148 runs. Later scoring 80 of 44 balls and Marsh got 63 from 47 balls. Manan Vohra late 20 made sure KXIP scored 183 in 20 overs. Mumbai was totally out of form today, no one looked to get going at any point and credit also goes to KXIP bowlers who kept Mumbai always in the bay. However best part is when Gilly bowled the last over for the first time in his cricketing career and picked wicket in the very first ball. Later followed the Gilly’s own version of Gagnam style to end the veteran’s cricketing career.

Kings XI Punjab won the match by 50 runs…

Game 2, Just time pass for the crowd should we call it, rain curtailed match and 8 overs per side. Tailor made situation for players like Gayle, Kohli & ABD. RCB in a do or die situation came really good with skipper leading from the front scoring a quick fifty. Few skiers from Gayle in the middle overs made sure to get mammoth 106/2 in 8 overs. CSK never got into chase, late strike from Dhoni & Vijay made sure CSK scored 82 runs. RCB won a very important game and now they will be hoping KKR to win the game against SRH tomorrow and make way for RCB to playoff’s.

Royal Challengers Bangalore won the match by 24 runs…

Standings as on DAY 46:

image

All eyes on tomorrow’s last game of this season, which will decide the last spot of playoff’s. KKR wins – RCB through, if SRH wins they go through. Simple equation, without any doubt the whole Bangalore will be watching the match rather than Kolkata.

IPL 5: Day 44 – Deccan’s play first of the spoiler’s to knock Rajasthan out…

May 19, 2012 at 12:44 am (Cricket, IPL, IPL 2012, IPL 5) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi all,

So many have gone past in a week where I have been busy in my native place to attend two year once festival for our deity.  Everything went well and here I am back to blog…

Few things that I could have missed…,

1. Dwayne Bravo’s Miandad style finish against KKR.

2. Chris Gayle’s blistering knock of 128* from 62 balls against DD.

3. Rohit Sharma’s Classic century of 109* runs against RCB.

4. Fiery Ben Hilfenhaus bowling DD out of the match.

5. Inspired Hussey & Gurukreet take KXIP live another day.

6. Gilly’s come back in style to smile for all reasons.

Match 68:

Rajasthan Royals Vs Deccan Chargers

It’s one of the two games that Royals have to win to be in the playoff’s, For Deccan, it will be a spoiler if they can win it.

Dravid won the toss and decided to bat first, Not the kind of start he expected as Rahane & Watson departed with meagre scores. Dravid with standed with few classic shots, but not before lofting Gony to the deep square hands with 39 runs to his name. Shah & Menaria tried to build the momentum, but they failed to do so, Eventually losing wickets at the wrong times. As RR finished with 126/8 in 20 overs.

Deccan’s would have felt that they are in with a fair chance to win their 2nd game in front of their home crowd. Both Akshath Reddy & Dhawan gave a solid start scoring 63 runs in 8 overs, put the runrate way below the expected.  But still DC wasn’t through with the game easily as Rajasthan pecked back with couple of wickets quickly, but this time Deccan’s didn’t press the panic button as they held their nerves quite well to pull off a 5 wicket victory and put Rajasthan out of contention.
Deccan Chargers won the game by 5 wickets with 8 Balls to spare…

Standings as on DAY 44:

Qualification Scenario for the teams in contention:

RR is out of the contention of this IPL 5…  It leave us with MI, CSK, KXIP & RCB fighting for the last two spots…

For CSK to qualify – Its Simple as that  KXIP & RCB has to lose their next matches…

For KXIP to qualify – Have win their next game and wait for RCB to lose their game, that’s enough as they will knock CSK out as they will move to 18 points.

For RCB to qualify – Just win the next game against – DC.

For MI – If KXIP or RCB have lost then they are through with 18 points they have, if both have won their games then its a virtual knockout game against RR, Need to win to enter…

Interesting facts as on Day 44:

–          Win against Rajasthan Royals for Deccan Chargers is only their second victory in their home ground in Hyderabad in all the five season played.

–          Gayle is the first player in IPL to score more than 700 runs in an IPL season; previous best was by Sachin Tendulkar 618 runs in Season 3.

–          Gayle is also the Highest run scorer in the tournament with 128* runs.

–          Deccans’s 3rd victory of this season, and it is just against the second team, because they won both their previous matches against PWI.

–          Shikhar Dhawan went past Rahane to take the top scorer spot after Gayle, he is now with 564 runs and Rahane following with   548.

–          Michael Hussey scored the 600th six of IPL

At the end of DAY 44:

No. of Catches dropped for the day – 3

Total no. of Boundaries – 1697

Total no. of Sixes – 647

Longest Six – Chris Gayle – 111,109,106,106 &106 Meters followed by Kieron Pollard – 105 Meters.

Most no. of Fours – A.Rahane (71) followed by R.Dravid (62)

Most no. of Sixes –Chris Gayle (57) followed by K.Pietersen (20)

Orange Cap – Chris Gayle (706) followed by S.Dhawan (564)

IPL 4: DAY 43 Review…

May 21, 2011 at 12:01 am (Cricket, IPL, IPL 2011, IPL 4) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi Guys,

Match 66, a very Important one for Mumbai Indians as KXIP knocking their doors very closely after KKR pulling a victory yesterday. Sachin Won the toss and decided to Bat first, As always Warney was very happy ever to play his last outing in IPL as a player in the field. Without doubt they Royals wanted their skipper to walk off with a famous victory, and what they do, bowl like hero’s and field like arrows… Nothing u could ask more, as Mumbai lost their wickets in the regular intervals, and even long standing Rohit Sharma could do much in the end overs, even after scoring his first fifty of the season. Mumbai Indians finished with 133/5 in 20 overs. Needed a good opening partnership to seal the game, but no one thought that the opening partnership alone will seal the game. Yes it was the case, as Shane Watson was in real mood to give Warnie a warm send off, as he blasted one of the Mumbai’s best bowler of the tournament Malinga over the park 3 times, each one was more majestic than the previous. On the other hand, Dravid played a more sensible knock to knock around and give strike to the tormentor, and that doesn’t mean he let away loose balls, as he punished few of them to fences too.. Overall a first 10 wicket victory for the season. Thanks to Dravid and Watson duo for it. I am not forgetting Shane Warne, who is been a legend in this game, none could have written script for this more befitting farewell for the Hero….

Standings as on DAY 43:

– Rohit Sharma scored the 1700th boundary and Shane Watson scored the 550th Six of the IPL 4.

– Both the fifty scorer’s Watson and Rohit Sharma scored their first fifty of this season.

– Surprisingly, Rajasthan Royals won all their games (6 of them) in this season by chasing alone.

– 134* partnership between Shane Watson & Rahul Dravid is the highest for the season for Rajasthan Royals; previous best was by the same pair against Chennai scoring 86.

– 10 wickets victory by Rajasthan Royals is their first ever on in the IPL seasons.

IPL 4: DAY 42 Review…

May 19, 2011 at 11:41 pm (Cricket, IPL, IPL 2011, IPL 4) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi Guys,

Match 65, was equally important for two reason, first is KKR need to win this badly to keep themselves ahead of KXIP, who may pull them back any moment. Secondly, Dada Ganguly will be playing against Kolkata after being dropped in the auction by their home team. Gambhir won the toss and decided to field first, PWI went in and did no good in rising the score, more than them doing, pitch was doing enough for the spinners to pick quick wickets and put warriors on the back foot. No one seems to inspire the score the total in the end PWI 118/7 in 20 overs. KKR started the easy chase with early jitters and they lost Goswami early, but Tiwary and Gambhir kept holding on the ends strong, until Tiwary pull one on to stumps. With a befitting half century from the skipper KKR sealed the game in style, Thanks to Yusuf too, who played his bit, as KKR crossed the line by losing 7 wickets and scoring 119 runs. Which also means KKR picks up the very important 2 points to leave KXIP to win the last game again with huge margin… Lets see what Gilly can do about it…

Standings as on DAY 42:

Interesting facts as on DAY 42:

– Gambhir scored his second fifty of this season and 10th overall in IPL.

– Today’s match had just 3 sixes being hit, one each by Ganguly, Tiwary and Yusuf Pathan.

– This is 6th time in this season a team have won by 7 wickets margin.

– Gambhir went out opener for the first time in this season.

– KKR won their 4th game chasing for this season, which also means they have won 4 batting first, rather to say, they have been asked to bat first, because whenever Gambhir wins the toss he will field first.

IPL 4: DAY 41 Review…

May 19, 2011 at 12:17 am (Cricket, IPL, IPL 2011, IPL 4) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi Guys,

Match 64, Kochi take on Chennai in Chennai, which most team will not be willing, as none will be brave enough to face lion in his own den. If Dhoni wins the toss, he will Bat first and he was batting first today too. Hussey and Vijay started the things slow, but when Vijay wanted to accelerate a little he was yorkered by RP singh. Raina too perished on the same cause, when he wanted to hit Sreesanth for 3rd six of the over. After Badri’s departure, it time for longing Saha to make his point, who has been in the playing XI but had very little to do. Today he got the opportunity and he grabbed it with both hands and deliverd when needed, as he went on to make 46 valuable runs. His shots looked majestic for such a small guy. Whatta Talent he is… CSK finished with 152/5 in 20 overs. Needing a Big win for Kochi, atleast to keep the mathematically open for semi’s. Seems have forgotten the plans, cant say though as CSK bowled really well in the opening overs, You can say bowling was so good such that McCullum never went past the strike rate of 100 once in this innings and it was story for the rest to follow. Except Brad Hodge none looked in ease, even the effort of Hodge came too late as it wasn’t helpful in any means. Its Chennai’s Citadel and u can’t breach it easily. As Chennai won their straight 7th game in Chepauk with 11 runs.

Standings as on DAY 41:

– Kochi Tusker Kerala now becomes the 4th team to be eliminated officially from IPL 4 and as well, Chennai Super Kings becomes the second team to be qualified.

– Chennai Super Kings is the only team to have qualified for the play off’s in all the four seasons.

– Chennai wins all the home matches played till now for this season as record stands 7 out of 7.

– Murali Vijay dropped his first catch of the tournament.

– Brad Hodge scored his first fifty of this season.

– Mike Hussey is the third player in the tournament to score 50 boundaries; the other two are Shewag and Valthaty.

IPL 4: DAY 40 Review…

May 18, 2011 at 12:58 am (Cricket, IPL, IPL 2011, IPL 4) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi Guys,

Match 63, To summarize in one word – Adam Gilchrist. That’s all i got to say as one man decimated a team which won 7 games in a row. After winning the toss Gilly decided to bat first, after 6 overs, KXIP were 30 odd runs after losing Valthaty. this is the time one of the world’s most destructive batsmen found his best form. Gilchrist blazed away the RCB bowlers all over the Dharmasala stadium, on one occasion he went for the mountain which went 122 meters long. Shaun Marsh also joined the party along with Gilly as both played some kind of PS2 cricket as they smashed ball after ball. Gilly finally scored his 2nd IPL century, and Marsh was not out for 79. KXIP ended with the tournament’s best score of 232/2. One of the best start needed for RCB if they have extend their winning streak, but it did happen opposite as Gayle played a maiden before getting out for a duck. From then on few played shots then and there but nothing seems to match the run rate as it was always in the Dharmasala mountains. Far away to the reach for any team. Finally KXIP bowled out RCB for the first time in this season and winning the match by 111 runs.

Standings as on DAY 40:

image

As of Now Teams for Semi’s:

1. Royal Challengers Bangalore 2. Chennai Super Kings, 3. Mumbai Indians, and 4.Kolkata Knight Riders.

Cat on wall:

1.Kings XI Punjab and 2. Kochi Tuskers Kerala (Just Mathematically, nothing serious)

Out of Contention:

1. Delhi Daredevils, 2, Pune Warriors, 3. Rajasthan Royals and 4. Deccan Chargers.

Interesting facts as on DAY 40:

– One of the Gilly’s six went past the mountains of Dharmasala as long as 122 meters, which is also the longest for this tournament.

– Adam Gilchrist scored the second century in the IPL; he is also the second player after Chris Gayle to achieve this feat.

– Adam Gilchrist’s first six of the day was also his 100th T20 international six.

– 232/2 is the third highest ever score in IPL history; list is topped both times by Chennai with 246 and 240 Vs Rajasthan and KXIP respectively.

– Gilchrist’s catch of AB de Villers’s is the 50th dismissal in IPL so far.

– KXIP’s massive victory also ended the seven match winning streak by Royal challengers Bangalore.

– 27 extras bowled by Bangalore are the highest ever in this season, Kochi will be happy to leave the position after bowling 23 extras.

– This is the first time RCB’s have been bowled out in this season.

– Praveen Kumar bowled the 27th Maiden of this season, also personally 7th for this season, highest by anyone so far in IPL.

– Piyush Chawla became the 12th bowler to pick 4 wickets are more in this season of IPL.

– 206 runs partnership between Shaun Marsh and Adam Gilchrist is the highest ever for any wicket in IPL and even for T20 internationals.

– 206 runs partnership bettered 152* between Kallis and Gambhir for this season of IPL.

– 206 runs partnership bettered 186 runs between Justin Langer and Cameron White for Somerset vs Gloucestershire in 2006.

– Gilchrist is also the 13th player to score 2 centuries in the T20 Internationals.

– 111 runs victory is the second highest margin in the IPL history as the KKR still tops with 140 run victory margin vs Bangalore in the first season, and for this season this is the highest bettering 85 runs margin by RCB themselves against KXIP.

IPL 4: DAY 39 Review…

May 17, 2011 at 12:17 am (Cricket, IPL, IPL 2011, IPL 4) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi Guys,

Match 62, Do or Die match for Pune warriors, Win in this match will keep Pune’s chances alive (Mathematically at least). Sangakarra won the toss for one last time for this season, and decided to field first, Pune threw the game away after a very good start, as they crumbled from 30/0 in 4 overs to 45/5 in 8 overs. From then on, Yuvi tried to bring back the game, later Wayne Parnell helped on the same cause, to get Pune to 136/9 in 20 overs. Deccan’s top order found the form finally as all the four chipped in to finish of the hopes of Pune to make it to the play offs. Sangakarra will be a happy man to win the game just before leaving this season of IPL to England.

Standings as on DAY 39:

As of Now Teams for Semi’s:

1. Royal Challengers Bangalore 2. Chennai Super Kings, 3. Mumbai Indians, and 4.Kolkata Knight Riders.

Cat on wall:

1.Kings XI Punjab and 2. Kochi Tuskers Kerala (Just Mathematically, nothing serious)

Out of Contention:

1. Delhi Daredevils, 2, Pune Warriors, 3. Rajasthan Royals and 4. Deccan Chargers.

Interesting facts as on DAY 39:

– 17 wides by Danial Christian is the highest by any bowler in this tournament, but he didn’t bowl one today.

– Amit Mishra became the 5th bowler in this tournament to pick up a double wicket maiden and also the 26th maiden overall of this season.

– Sourav Ganguly scored the first duck of this season.

– Deccan has won their first match by chasing in this season and ironically, Pune yet to win their first match batting first.

– Pune Warriors are the fourth team officially to be eliminated from this season of IPL.

– Score of 23 looked to be the bad omen for the day as three batsmen are dismissed in this score, Duminy, Yuvaraj and Manish Pandey being the victims.

– Mithun Manhas scored the 4th duck of this season, and now officially he is with maximum no.of ducks for this season.

IPL 4: DAY 38 Review…

May 16, 2011 at 12:06 am (Cricket, IPL, IPL 2011, IPL 4) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi Guys,

Match 60, KXIP need 3 out of 3 to be in the play offs, Gilly the captain who has done it for Deccan’s two years ago to win 4 out of 4 and make it semi’s and eventually going on to win the cup in the second season. Hopes won the toss and decided to field first, Again a failed batting performance for Gilchrist, but Paul Valthaty and Shaun Marsh made amends, as they went on to put 102 run partnership. Once both departed of consecutive deliveries run rate slowed down and KXIP ended their innings with 170/6 in 20 overs. Delhi showed no intent in winning the game, that to after losing the first 3 wicket, they were buried dead alive. DD finished at 141/8 in 20 overs, giving KXIP a much needed win with 29 runs slack. All now Gilly and Preity will be hoping for is just 2 wins. We can say, if Gilly can pull next one against RCB’s then, they are well and truly home as they will face Deccan’s in the final encounter.

Match 61, Warne’s Royals needed this win badly to stay in the competition, A very important game for Rajasthan, but to me its the worst game they ever played for this season, Poor shot right from the beginning led no where other than to bundle out less 100, with paltry 97 in 18.3 overs. Where a score of 180 is par one just because of shorter boundaries on both ends. Kochi Tuskers did no wrong as McCullum and Hodge no time in wasting scored the 98 runs in just 7.2 overs with the loss of 2 wickets. KTK decimated Royals and they chucked them out of competition of this season. Hopefully Royals sans Warne should do well.

Standings as on DAY 38:

image

As of Now Teams for Semi’s:

1. Royal Challengers Bangalore 2. Chennai Super Kings, 3. Mumbai Indians, and 4.Kolkata Knight Riders.

Cat on wall:

1.Kings XI Punjab and 2. Kochi Tuskers Kerala (Just Mathematically, nothing serious)

Out of Contention:

1. Delhi Daredevils, 2, Pune Warriors, 3. Rajasthan Royals and 4. Deccan Chargers.

Interesting facts as on DAY 38:

– Victory for KTK with 76 balls to spare is the highest ever for the season, and second highest for IPL. List was topped by Mumbai’s victory over Kolkata with 87 balls to spare in first season of IPL. Ironically both the times wicket victory margin was 8 wickets. To add up in the twenty20 internationals, this is 4th highest in terms of balls remaining.

– Praveen Kumar bowled the 25th Maiden of this tournament, and he is also the only bowler to bowl 6 Maidens in the IPL tournament. He has bowled 4 in this season.

– Rajasthan Royals become the 3rd team officially to be knocked out of this tournament after Delhi and Deccan, after winning the IPL cup in 2008, they are yet to make into final four, and now they score Hattrick. (Not the way Warne would have wanted his IPL career to end)

– Paul Valthaty became the second batsmen to score 50+ boundaries in IPL this season, he went past Shewag’s 51.

– Paul Valthaty also went past Chris Gayle to pick up the Orange cap from him; he was the sixth batsmen to go past 400 run mark this season.

– Brad Hodge became the 11th bowler to pick 4 or more wickets for this season.

– Paul Valthaty scored his 2nd Fifty of this season.

– Brad Hodge scored the 1600th Boundary and Brendon McCullum scored the 500th Six of IPL 4.

– 102 runs partnership between Paul Valthaty and Shaun Marsh is their highest 2nd wicket partnership for this season.

IPL 4: DAY 37 Review…

May 15, 2011 at 12:40 am (Cricket, IPL, IPL 2011, IPL 4) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi Guys,

Match 58, to fight for the top place, RCB took on KKR, Stand in captain Virat Kohli won the toss and decided to field first, KKR got off to a poor start by losing top three with score being just 30, it would have be disaster if Pathan was held when he was in 7. It went down and he took charge and started hitting the skies, but even before the ball came, rain came down and match was curtailed to 13 over per side. Which left KKR 89/4 in 13 overs, and corrected score was 102 to win in 13 overs. As usual another Gayle’s Knock which made things easier for RCB, 38 from 12 balls ended the match in the 3rd over and RCB just played the fiddle out to win the game by 4 wickets and 3 balls to spare.

Match 59, Another chance for Mumbai Indians to go up the table, with listless Deccan’s take them in Wankade Stadium. As Sangakarra won the toss and decided to Bat first, but got to a hopeless start as Michael Lumb lost his stumps to yet another Malinga’s spl. Apart from last over heroics from Amit Mishra, Deccan’s batting looked so much in ordinary, Spectacular last over got Deccan’s to 135/6 in 20 overs. Out of 10 times, Mumbai would have taken this score all the 10 times, It wasn’t the case, as wickets kept on falling for Mumbai and they went on for their consecutive batting failure, Top order failed miserably, with Sachin just scoring 37 off 42 balls. Later in the game, Pollard tried with few lusty hits, but its too much for him. Bottom tabled Deccan’s pulled a stunning victory over the favourites with 10 runs.

May 14, 2011 at 12:33 am (Cricket, IPL, IPL 2011, IPL 4) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi Guys,

Match 57, KXIP crossed their first hurdle succesfully couple of days back, now they need 4 out of 4, Today they took on Giant killers KTK, as Gilly won the toss and decided to field first, But smaller boundaries in Indore meant, runs came thick and fast for KTK, with Skipper Mahela doing the maximum damage, with enough support from McCullum, Owasis Shah and KXIP extras (23 freebies), Kochi went on to post 178/7 in 20 overs. Chase of 8.5 runs is always gonna be tricky, it was as Gilly and Valthathy departed very early and smiles from Preity Zinda’s face vanished, until two KXIP man came into rescue. Dinesh Karthik and Shaun Marsh went on to get the second best partnership for KXIP of this season, 111 runs between them came in no time as Karthik being the major tormentor. He went forward and took chances and showed no half measures and utilised the short boundaries to his benefits, Overall a smart cricket from Karthik stole the show and won the game for KXIP with 6 wicket and 7 balls to spare.
