Hi guys,

Finally it needed a push for me to be back in the blogging world, and its always Cricket and this time its World Cup, so cant miss out the opportunity… To the least it will keep my blog and blogging habit alive…

Guess i cant review all the matches this time as last quarter of the year pushes me the edge of the seats with sales target, so u just cant relax… So to the max will try to update the interesting facts for the day alone as the days progress and will review our matches…

Match 1: India Vs Bangladesh

World cup is back after a most disappointing effort by the Indian team last year, as usual huge expectations are filled in the World’s No.1 team this year too…

Dhoni’s men will look to put in the better show and will try to present the World cup to Sachin Tendulkar, which seems to be evading him for the past 5 world cups, and hopefully his last chance to lay his hands over it.

After a fantastic opening ceremony in Dhaka, India joined along the home team Bangladesh in Mirpur. Sakhib ul Hassan spun the coin to the huge cheer of home crowd and he won it too, but being mislead by statistics he decided to bowl against the strong batting line up India.

Shewag & Sachin walked out without much appreciation, but Shewag started the WC with a scintillating shot to get off the mark with a boundary which he does most of the times, right from then its all Shewag’s day as he drove thru covers, cut thru points, pull on onside, went berserk as he saw when ball was asked to be bowled by spinners and launched them to the crowd who were most of the times didn’t find chance to cheer at them.. How many times u have seen a attacking opener like Shewag batted almost 47 overs, this was his day, just that’s all to say. Shewag’s score of 175(140) also equalled legendary innings of Kapil Dev’s 175 which he scored against Zimbabwe in 1983 WC.

If i am boasting Shewag, then i can’t leave out Virat Kohli too, who joined alongside of Shewag to bring up his Century in his World Cup debut, making his position cemented for the other matches to come. May be Shewag’s innings outset the Kohli’s one, without doubt it was a classy knock which had enuf aggression and patience cut to precision. He ended himself being not out scoring 100 of 83 balls.

Apart from these two, Sachin scored 28 before running himself out for a non existent run over mid on, and Gambhir scored run a ball 39 before getting bowled to a non descript able ball which kept a touch low to faux him and thunderous Pathan just didn’t have enuf time to launch himself in leaving 8 off 10 balls.

To Talk abt bowling cant say much, they seems to have worked a plan against Pathan alone and they did perfectly but to their irony he had to face only 10 of their planned deliveries, Rest all looked clueless against the dismissible batting display by two fabulous Indians.

In the end India reached a mammoth total of 370/4 in the stipulated 50 overs, which is not certainly Sakhib ul hassan would have wanted when he asked India to bat after winning the toss.

Coming down to chase Bangladesh just tried to keep themselves in the hunt for the first 15 overs till the field was up and was thankfully helped by some poor bowling by Sreesanth. Kayes helped the bangladesh crowd to stay up in the feat for the money’s they paid for sometime before the strike bowler of the day Munaf pecked back his leg stump with an inside edge (Deja vu of Grame smith recently), from then on Spinners tied the things decently and some smart work behind the stumps fetched one more wicket for Bhaji.

Finally not much for the home team as they accepted the fact and closed themselves to a respectable total of 283/9 in 50 overs, and winning by 87 runs, which is never the less unless Indians scored a good total to defend, they would have seen themselves in some kind of trouble. But not for this time and revenge was successful completed as fittingly Shewag scripted during his Man of the match presentation.

Interesting Facts on Day 1:

~ Shewag score of 175 was his personal highest and also the highest ever score in the first world cup match, bettering Glenn Turner’s 171.

~ 370/4 was also the highest by any team in a WC opener.

~ 203 runs partnership is the 5th 200+ partnership in WC so far for Indians, and its 2nd time for Shewag.

~ Sachin had himself run out for the 35th time, just behind Dravid who is leading the list with 39.
