HCL Off Campus Exp…

Hi friends…..

 

        Last Tuesday I have (14.10.08) attended the HCL Infosystems  Off campus in Madras University, Chennai…  K let me narrate the whole story….  Nadanthathu enna….?

 

        Got up at 3.30 am in the morning, then got ready after a hot water shower, my friend prasanna picked me up to the bus stand, reached by 4.25. Forced to wait for my friend ganesh a bit…. Then v boarded the bus by 4.45, had to take ticket for 24 guys, where v were only five in the bus stand…. Some how managed it and got all my friends in the university gate by 5.15.. then finally reached thiruvanmiyur by 8.45, took train to chepauk and got there by 9.10. No one was ter in the dept. cool v refreshed up and got ready after the breakfast for the main party…. HCL ppl came by 10.10 had PPT (Pre-Placement Talk)… then surprisingly first round was a Group Discussion… Surprise…

 

Round 1: Group Discussion:

All our 24 guys were splited down into 5 guys along with madras university guys. I am group 3 with my friends Krishna, Ganesh,Mishra and Ajay.. It’s a funny group discussion… Topic goes this way  “Decide a topic of ur own and make others accept tat ur topic is best for GD” every one chose their own, I was thinking for first 2 mins wat to choose…. Ajay took nuclear deal, Ganesh took current Financial crisis, Krishna took current scenario of B schools not having good placements. Mishra took lack of educational skills in india and finally I took the oil crisis happening in india. Went on like a fish market. Nothing concluded till the end. Came out all 5 of us spoke well… Happy… results came after 30 mins… four (except mishra) from our group and on total 15 out of 24 were selected for next round. Only disappointment was one of my friend Jayanthan was not able to make it to next round, (bcos he is one preparing for it… so bit sad…) anyways Aptitude is the next round, came back after lunch (had a tough time eating something called Onion rice)….

 

Round 2: Aptitude Test:

 

        My goodness what to write abt this round, a very tough one almost like cat. Had three sections i.) Verbal,   ii.)Quants,   iii.) data interpretation and reasoning. Each section had 20 questions to ans for, total of 60 questions in 45 mins… worst part negative mark of 1 for every wrong ans….after seeing the q paper, I know its time for pack up…. A very tough one, attended exactly 20 question (which I am very confident of) 8 from verbal 6 from quants and 6 from DI… cool tats it… nothing more I could grill out of my mind…. (Literally got headache after tat)…. Time is also over… gave the paper and every one felt as I felt, a very tough one…. 

 

Round 3: Story writing (as I wud say) r its called Thematic Apperception test:

 

        No one was shortlisted from round 2 all us took round 3… where a picture is shown and v have to frame a story starting from past to the present picture situation and end up in future… first pic was like some person waiting for lift to come up (in simple he is standing in front of some door, pressing a button)…. Framed a story some how, then next one is a empty slide, they asked us to assume a picture in mind and frame a story… did tat too….My creativity and  the habit blogging helped me a lot while framing the story….  I felt I did well this round better than all three…

  

Round 4: Personal Interview (in simple Stress Interview):

       

        Just the moment I opened the door I heard a chorus of voices telling me “JUST GET OUT”….

HR(5 persons) – Just get out… ur rejected…

Me – sir, I don’t think u have a very good reason to reject me…

HR – ur late by a min, so I have the reason u get out…

Me – (standing still smiling)

HR – Don’t u understand English man, pls get out ur rejected don’t waste our time….

Me – Sir I have something to show

HR – oh, What u have come on show me…

Me – my talents

HR – oh k k u have talents, let me see that come have a seat, k tell me ur talents….

Me – Sir, I am good in Marketing.

Hr – stop, I don’t accept ur good in marketing, u have never sold a product for me…. I don’t accept this, so wats next.

Me – sir, I am so creative, u can see from the story I have written,

Hr – do u have any benchmark for urself for being creative…?

Me – sir, I have created a video for my dept, In which I have portrayed the life of student in the dept…. I wud say tat one, which I can benchmark for my creativity.

Hr – anyway I have not seen the video tell something which is possible..  dp u have any anyother skills?

Me – sir, I have been the comperer for all the events in my dept.

Hr – oh u compere well, then u shud have gone for a RJ job, u cud get good salary, lots of gals, fame and u can enjoy a lot, why did u come here and wasting our time…

Me – sir, a MBA is not needed for a RJ job..

Hr – Even I don’t need  Mba, just Bcom graduates will do the job for me…

Me – no sir, bcom graduate will not have any exposure like a MBA graduate, we were into live projects, had 8 weeks of summer internship, plus v study abt it too.

Hr – Whats ur passion is it sales r marketing, which one do u prefer?

Me – sir…..(small pause), I wud prefer marketing…

Hr – huh…. Here is the ans, so simple ur rejected, sorry man v r looking only for sales job and not for any marketing… so u can go now..

Me – Not like tat sir, if u ask me to choose between marketing and sales, I wud choose marketing, but I prefer sales also….

Hr – so wat ever is available u ll take it…?  If customer asks broomstick instead of desktop PC u ll sell tat too…?

Me – no sir, if our customer needs a broom stick delivered by us, sure I ll do tat too sir….

Hr – K first can u tell me the difference between Sales and Marketing..?

Me – sir, marketing starts right from the idea of the product is conceived but sales happens only when the product is produced and ready for sales. (I stuck once while telling this)

Hr – Don’t try to pull out words, if it is not ter…. If u don’t know just tell don’t know and get out….

Hr – ok just tell me which language ur prefer to hear that ur rejected either in tamil r english…?

Me –  No sir, I damn sure tat I ll selected why shud I hear tat I am rejected.

Hr – ye u ans only my question, just tell which language…?

Me – No sir, I ll not be rejected, I am sure abt it…

Hr – So u ll not ans to question at all…. I ask u finally tell me again…

Me – sir, u tell in any language but not right here, after I left the room u can tell this to mam(one of the lady HR sitting next to him). I don’t want to hear it now.

Hr –  If I recruit u I have to face the problem of disobeying also…. Do u think I ll choose u..?

Me – Yes sir, I suit very well for ur sales profile…

Hr – ok, u sell me something and show… (tea was given to them balance sugar cubes r left in the table) hmmm, sell this sugar cube to mam…

Me – mam, v used to use sugar which is in grainy form, which sometimes spills over will be a real trouble to pick and clean it, but mam, here I have a new product which is called HCL sugarcubes, u can use this to avoid this scenario..

Hr – Sorry , my house all r diabetic patients so its useless for me…

Me – why do u say that mam, being an HR professional in a big company like HCL, u must have link with many high class ppl, they will be coming to ur house mam, so u can serve them with these cubes, bcos they may also have some diabetics problem, so instead of having sugar in a cup eith spoon. This is better and plus it improves ur standard…

Hr – give me one more good reason to take this cube…

Me –  mam, y do u want one more reason, I gave u a solid examples, its damn sure, tat somebody will come to ur home…. So getting guest’s in home is not a rare one. So u shud need these sugar cubes….

Hr – she told k u give me the sugar cube, I ll take it…

Hr – ye ur selling well man, y don’t u keep a grocery shop and sell item.

Me – for keeping a grocery shop I wudn’t have done my MBA sir.

Hr – I didn’t mean petty shops, something like retail chains (subiksha, big bazzar)

Me – no sir , right away I don’t have any idea being an entrepreneur may be ten years down the line I may think abt it, tat too if I get a chance.

Hr – Oh in future u ll leave the job right…?

Me – Not like tat sir, since u persisted me to start my own business, I replied, I may do in another 10 yrs down the line and not right away.

Hr – Y not now…?

Me – I don’t have the enough capital to back up my business idea.

Hr – Being an MBA don’t u know the ways to generate money..?

Me – yes sir, I do, but I cant take risk right away.

Hr – ur useless to my company u cant take any risk, ur worthless tats wat I feel, whats do u say..?

Me – I don’t think so sir, u just give me chance, I ll prove my mettle…

(all the Hr ppl are laughing after this ans… don’t know y till now…)

Hr – u don’t stumble to any type of pressure given to u right..?

Me – no sir, the real life situation is gonna be really harder and tougher than this, so this is not at all a pressure. I am pretty cool sir.

Hr – k Ramasubramanian, good, We will get back to u later, u can go…

Me – Thank you sirs and thank you mam.

 

Later in day, I had to wait for my other friends to complete their interview, it went on till 8.30. then the hr’s came out and said only one has been selected and its Komal devi (one of my classmate), fine, but shockingly they also told, they have shortlisted 3 name for sales trainee job, first name was Awanish raj, second was Ajay Prasad and finally came my name to the shock…. Anyways not interested to move as a sales trainee for a low bucks… rather I wud prefer to go into my fav media r ad industry for a low bucks job…

 

K came back to hostel by 2.30 am, picked by the birthday boy (Santanu Chowdry) and slept well till alarm went on by 6.30 to wake me up for MCS class at 7.00 L LL…

 

Spent abt an hour to make it, hope this hr round helps some of u guys… tats y I have put in such a effort to bring it out…JJJ…
