IPL 6: Day 49 Qualifier 1–Hussey & Raina help CSK to book themselves the 5th IPL Final…

May 22, 2013 at 12:35 am (Cricket, IPL, IPL 2013, IPL 6) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi all,

Last week in  IPL 6 and it starts with Top two teams in the table meet to decide who is gonna get the double promotion and be there on a Big Sunday..  Is it going to be fifth time for Chennai or second time for Mumbai…?

Qualifier 1, Dhoni won the coin and decided to bat first, When the big day comes, Chennai is totally a revamped team, CSK got off to a good start with 52 runs before losing Vijay while trying to up the run rate. Then came the partnership between Mr.Cricket Hussey & all time CSK star Raina, which changed the total complexion of the game. Hussey was subtle in his touch & class in anchoring along with Raina who showed the pure aggression & T20 style of batting. Both put on a 140 runs partnership in 76 balls which helped CSK to post a taunting 192/1 in 20 overs.

Mumbai without Sachin lost Aditya tare very early, but however Dwayne Smith scored a blistering blitzkrieg fifty of 21 balls to get Mumbai off to a flyer. But its that man again with golden arm for Dhoni, Sir Jadeja who picked the dangerous Smith at 68 of 28 balls. Once he is out suddenly Mumbai looked like headless chickens. Karthik got out sweeping to a straight ball, followed Skipper Rohit Sharma. For a very Brief moment Pollard looked like turning on the game with two back to back sixes off Jadeja, But u always know you can’t get away from Sir, just after hitting two sixes, so he had the last laugh by dismissing him and picking the third wicket of the day in the very same over. From then it was just Catching session for CSK, as Mumbai batsmen came to scoop the balls in the air and CSK fielders made sure they picked every one of them without missing. In the end Mumbai were bowled out for 144 in 18.4 overs.

Chennai Super Kings won the match by 48 runs and through to the finals for the fifth time in 6 seasons of IPL…

IPL 6: Day 30–Raina’s Century & ABD’s blitzkrieg sums up…

May 3, 2013 at 12:29 am (Cricket, IPL, IPL 2013, IPL 6) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Certainly its Midweek Madness as IPL  is going crazy by having third double header on a week on this same week.

Game 1, CSK in the form of their life met KXIP in their den, Saha & Hussey pair started the innings from the place where they left, As both departed bit earlier today than expected and Dhoni went for a non existent second run to leave the crease very early. So it was another Super Kings day to step up the scoring shoes and it was none other than IPL top scorer Suresh Raina, who did in style with a Century the only record missing in his IPL career resume. Shacky start by KXIP losing David hussey bit quick didn’t help them either. But Shaun Marsh & David Miller struck a partnership between them and got the important runs at crucial junctures and kept the chase always on till the last 6 balls bowled, Dwayne Bravo just made the important difference between both sides by just bowling the last over for just 3 runs and picking 3 wickets. CSK continue to roar in their den.

Chennai Super Kings won the match by 15 runs…

Game 2, not much fancied one as of now, Pune hosting RCB, Yes, What you think is right, this is the team which Gayle torn into pieces and went on to make record books re written. RCB won the toss and went on to pile up the runs in gradual pace today because Gayle has to depart bit early. However it is, in the end its ABD who stole the show and game from Pune Warriors India, by picking 26 runs in the last over bowled by Dinda. PWI as always started of by losing wickets in regular intervals, but for one change Robin Uthappa played a matured and classy knock but it was a lone battle waged which was too much and in the end Pune fell short. Giving RCB the much needed first away for this season.

Royal Challengers Bangalore won the match by 17 runs…

Last time when these two teams met, to a big surprise Pune defeated CSK, courtesy Steven Smith’s handy knock. Can the history repeat itself. Not really with a kind of form Men in yellow as of now.

Chennai won the toss and decided to Bat first, Lost the openers in quick succession, in form Hussey departed very early, finally giving a chance for Badrinath to bat, He stitched a partnership with Suresh Raina and gave CSK a solid platform for the skipper Dhoni to unleash himself in the last 5 overs and he just killed PWI by scoring 45 of 16 balls to end the CSK innings with 164/3 in 20 overs. PWI never looked like they are going to chase this score stated losing wickets in heaps, they lost top 4 in no time and 6 down in 9 overs summed up the whole game. April 19, 2013 at 11:17 am (Cricket, IPL, IPL 2013, IPL 6) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Delhi needing to win to stay in hunt desperately met CSK in their den. Apart from getting CSK to Delhi, nothing went as planned for Delhi, Dhoni won the toss and decided to Bat first. Vijay & Hussey gave a start, Raina capitalised on it, Dhoni trounced Delhi to set a target of 170 runs in 20 overs. People seeing the squad in papers will feel this is definitely achievable because you have Shewag, Warner, Mahela to follow, But its all in Papers as in reality except for a new comer Kedar Jhadev no one even cared to stay in crease for a brief moment. On the other credit goes to Dhoni & Co as they kept bowling very tight, and fielding was outstanding. Which meant only one thing Delhi succumbed to their lowest ever score in IPL History.

Chennai Super Kings won the match by 86 runs…

IPL 5: Day 30 – Men in Yellow Make Merry in Madras…

May 5, 2012 at 12:33 am (Cricket, IPL, IPL 2012, IPL 5) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi all,

Match 46:

Chennai Super Kings Vs Deccan Chargers

A Must win game for the Champions to stay in contention, With points table being tightly packed, every game for every one is important. Not the same for the opposition as they already qualified for the party spoilers list, however two back to back wins, will boost their confidence and will look it to make it three in a row.

Dhoni won the coin and decided to bat first, typical Chennai wicket, can’t expect anything else from the captain winning the toss. Chennai dropped Hussey for Ben Hilfenhaus and Saha made way for Vijay, who opened the innings with in form opener Faf, Just when Murali vijay was looking good, thrown his wicket away for 14. Raina joined faf to rotate the strike and clear fences quite sometimes as well, as they got 64 runs between two. Dhoni who didn’t impress much played a handy knock and Bravo finished with a flourish as CSK ended with 160 runs on board. DC bowled well to keep CSK at this score as they looked for much more in the half way time.

Again a early blow for DC as they lost Parthiv Patel for 1, where the score was 9/1 in 2 overs, it should have been easily 9/2 if Albie haven’t spilled a return catch from White. Dhawan along with White made sure run rate was under control and played around CSK bowlers very well. Until Bravo found a bizzare way of getting Dhawan out after he booted a tough catch to runners end stumps to find Dhawan out of crease. Tha man with golden arm Raina this time turned gold again as he plucked Sangakarra with a brilliant return on handed catch. Game was gone by then, White tried his level best bring DC back, once he fell short of gas while trying to get a second to keep strike. Its all done. As CSK won the match by 10 runs.

Chennai Super Kings won the match by 10 runs….

Match 1:

Chennai Super Kings Vs Mumbai Indians

Super Heavy weight match to start the Tournament, Defending Champions will face Champions League Champions Mumbai Indians. At the toss New Captain Harbhajan Singh called it right to put Chennai into batting first, in a surprisingly new grass rolled over wicket in Chennai.

Chennai started off with a wrong foot, as they lost the first wicket to a nothing run, Faf du plessis was in the receiving end. Murali Vijay who is back into cricket after a Injury, found himself very difficult to inculcate and perished very soon. Raina and Bravo tried to stick the only useful partnership of the day, once both departed, its just time to press forward button and look at the end scorecard.

Coming to chase a very easy target in a T20 game, Mumbai was very much positive right from the start, As the New Mumbai Entrant Richard Levi, showed his class in this format, as he reached his fifty in 36 balls, with 3 hits over the fence. After he departed, Rohit Sharma followed him, and Chennai camp had something going, they made Sachin Retired hurt, but the target is pressure is eased off , so Mumbai played down safe to reach the target. And Finally Chennai’s Fortress MAC is conquered after a very long time.

IPL 4: Play off–1: CSK Vs RCB…

May 25, 2011 at 2:21 am (Cricket, IPL, IPL 2011, IPL 4) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Match 71: Play off – 1:
Chennai Super Kings Vs Royal Challengers Bangalore

A Game you can remember ever if your a ardent T20 cricket fan irrespective of which team your supporting. you will be rejoiced if you were supporting the men in yellow to win the match, as they emerged triumphant with a never die attitude and to go straight into finals for the third time in the IPL history.

Dhoni won the toss and decided to field first, how often you see Dhoni wants to chase especially in a T20 game, it was that kind of the day, May be Gayle would have made the change in the mind of Dhoni. However, things started well, as usual Ashwin struck as soon as he was hit for six, this time a Undertaker’s sign to finish off Chris Gayle, when he was trapped in front of the wicket attempting a sweep. Even though Gayle went so early Kohli along with Manish Agarwal and Luke  Pomerbach did the repair to restore RCB back in track, as well late on slaughter from Kohli ensured RCB went past 150 easily and they ended up 175/4 in 20 overs.

Disastrous start you could ever ask for, as Hussey dismissed in the very first over for a duck, followed by Vijay with a rare Taufel’s wrong decision to pavilion and scorecard read 7/2 in 2 overs. Both batsmen in the crease very well know they can’t lose another wicket in hurry and end up just like in the last match, so both Raina and Badri kept the plan simple to rotate strike till the iron is hot enough to strike. Just before that Badri was dismissed for well made 34. Finally the time for killer blow came in the over of Abimanyu Mithun both Dhoni and Raina looted 23 runs to give a kick start for dying CSK, But this guy from Caribbean, still wanted to fight back but this time with balls in his hands, he was firing in yorkers, sliders, short jab balls, none seems to connect s he kept the run rate for CSK in the check all the time till finished off in 18th over. u need other bowlers to support Gayle, but it wasn’t happening as Raina took Zaheer’s 17th over for 20 runs but he still got the wicket of Skipper Dhoni, but irony is that it brought none other than Morkel to crease. 33 needed of last two and Sreenath Arvind couldn’t do much against destructive Morkel as he leaked 21 runs, leaving just 12 to get in the final, and Morkel sealed it in style with the trademark six of the long on to seal the berth for finals in IPL 2011… CSK won the match by 6 wickets and 2 balls to spare….

Match 71 Scorecard:
RCB 175/4 in 20 overs.
V.Kohli 70*                M.Agarwal 34
D.Bollinger 1/20       R.Ashwin 1/33
CSK 177/4 in 19.4 overs.
S.Raina 73*         S.Badrinath 34
Z.Khan 2/31        S.Aravind 1/32
Interesting facts as on DAY 46:

– CSK is the only team to enter finals 3 times in IPL; it will also be the first team to defend their title in the finals.

– This is first time in the tournament that a match has ended with 2 balls to spare, surprise teams have been chasing so comfortably and how boring it have been all these days.

IPL 3: Big Finals – CSK Vs MI…

April 26, 2010 at 11:15 pm (IPL, IPL 3) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi guys,

Finally, its de D-Day in IPL season 3…

Match 60 Review:
Chennai Super Kings Vs Mumbai Indians

Its the Gr8 Finale for the third season of IPL,  Indian Captain taking on a man who is be in this business for couple of decades, None other than Sachin Tendulkar. Journey for Mumbai Indians is much better and easy as they are driven home always by Sachin. Few occasions he missed, Young Indians rose to occasion to make it much better. And here they are in the Finals of IPL season 3. To say abt Chennai it wasn’t the same as they were languishing in the bottom half of the table most of the times and their skipper got back them in nick of time to make into Semi’s, bowler helped them to make into finals. Some or the other here they are… Not to miss out the fact, CSK is the only team who qualified for semi’s in all the three seasons and once in a final…

Evening started with brilliant colors and Men in white AR Rahman emerged out of the crowd Singing “Chale Chalo” from Lagaan (Seems much apt song though), followed Bipasha Basu and Shahid Kapoor to bust a move, and again its Rahman who finished with his Trademark Jai Ho and Maa Tuje Saalam…

Mumbai crowd was Jam packed and had 60,000 ppl watching eagerly and supporting their teams, Mostly Mumbai Indians (Any one have doubt in it…?) Sachin finally announcing himself in the centre, eventhough injury hasn’t been cured, he is ready to play and took a brave move… Once again Dhoni won the Coin and decided to Bat first. Both teams went with the same squad which played in the semi’s.

Hayden walked out with Murali Vijay and Bhajji started the things for Mumbai, its very much visible that Haydos is been struggling for his form, he shouldered many balls which he could have atleast worked towards third man for a single, Which really out the pressure and Vijay, so as a subside, he scored runs in quick pace, few hits over the fences are so spl to watch. After putting the best first wicket partnership against Mumbai Indians, Murali decided to give away his wicket to Fernando and followed Hayden, this time Pollard being the benefiter. Raina was joined by Badri, He played few innovative shots before pulling one straight to third man. As he departed score was 67/3 in 11 overs. Dhoni certainly knows his team needs 160+ score to defend, so he started pushing hard, Raina joined him, But he lofted twice in mid air, which was (Turning Point) dropped by Feranando and Zaheer to give him the reprieve, which he capitalized on, he went on to score 57 from 35 balls. Dhoni stitched with him in a partnership of 72 runs, which really turned the match in favor of Yellow Jerseys… Bowling Both Fernando and Harbhajan was good…

CSK 168/5 in 20 overs.

Raina 57*          M.Vijay 26
Fernando 2/23  Z.Khan1/34

MI 146/9 in 20 overs.

Sachin 48              Pollard 27
Muralitharan 1/17     S.Jakathi 2/26

Few poor overs and fielding costed Mumbai a lot and now their side will be chasing a score of 8.5 runs per over. In form Batsmen Sachin walked out Dhawan. Start couldn’t be better for Chennai, as Ashwin started with a Maiden first over. Both Ashwin and Bolinger tied up the run flow and kept Mumbai in the bay, Dhawan went for a 8 ball duck, Bolinger being the bowler. Abshiek Nayar joined alongside his Skipper, played a sensible knock, but he was lucky many a times as Chennai kept on missing their run out chances, Not before Skipper Dhoni pulled one of bull’s eye. As he departed to all surprise Harbhajan came into play (Some kind of a Pinch hitter r what…?) but his stayed was cut short by raina with a quicker one which wud have hit the middle and leg. Rayudu joined tendulkar, Run rate was creeping all time now, its almost 2 runs a ball. Jakathi was brought back by dhoni to bowl 15th over, which Sachin started off with a boundary, but very next ball, he just lofted one to Murali Vijay, who has Bucket hands, in which ball plunged. Jakathi struck again by removing Saurab Tiwary, provided by the brilliant catch from Suresh Raina. Even after 5th wicket down, we didn’t have the glimpse of Kieron Pollard, Duminy and Rayudu played out important few balls without much success, which real pulled run rate further up. Just when Duminy was just pulled before the ropes, Mumbai needed 55 from last 18 balls. (Too much for any1 – even for pollard). Record stands as 46 scored in last 3 is the best (scored by Dhoni against KXIP in Dharmasla), Dhoni turned to his best bowler Bollinger to bowl to Pollard, West Indian had one thing in mind, that is to repay the purse of Ambani’s, He went hard on Dougie to pick 22 runs in his over, which really turned the game upside down, Needing 33 from 12 with pollard in crease looked so easy. Albie morkel was called to bowl the penultimate over of his life, He bowled first two balls to Rayudu and gave just a single, In came pollard and blasted the 3rd to straight boundary, Next one picked a couple and 5th trying the same, where second not on, but Pollard wanted to be in strike ran back hard, in the end rayudu doing the good man job, sacrificing his wicket. After seeing 3 balls been hit straight, Dhoni got a mid off fielder right in the back of bowler, Very much straightest mid off, Not to leave, he also had the long off fielder unmoved. Morkel bowled the delivery outside off full, and Pollard trying to drive in up, fell straight into the hands of Hayden who was the straightest Mid off fielder. Both Morkel and Hayden made the mark for the day, and not to leave out Dhoni’s brilliant captaincy.  With Pollard back in hut needing 27 in last over, is in simple game Chennai. CHENNAI SUPER KINGS ARE THE CHAMPIONS OF THIS YEAR IPL 2010. Two times so close but not quite good enough to have the hand on the trophy, but this year its Chennai’s…

IPL 3: Day 26 Review…

April 7, 2010 at 2:04 am (IPL, IPL 3) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi guys,

Its Day 26 in IPL 3…

Match 37 Review:
Chennai Super Kings Vs Mumbai Indians

A must win game for Chennai and a win for Mumbai to take them to semi final berth. Its the battle between Teams with winning momentums… Both will look to better out each other. Coming to pitch, its the place where 469 runs are scored just 3 days back. So Dhoni winning the toss had no hesitation to Bat first. (Plus he has saved his bowlers from Chennai’s Hot and Humid condition bowling first and then coming back to bat).. Chennai left out injured Albie and got Thusara in… To get a batting all rounder, Chennai had to drop Murali and get Mike Hussey in… So Hussey gets his first of this IPL.. Mumbai had left Zaheer due to injury and got Abu Nazim as the replacement fast bowler.

Chennai proceeding started with Murali Driving McClaren over Mid off, but he wasn’t able to repeat the magic today, as he was plucked back when he tried to cut down Bhajji down to third man. Raina joined Big man to continue the things, Raina got his 50th six in IPL and perished in the same over when he did try to do the same. Dhoni and Mongoose came in at the same time, when u feel, something is gonna happen, nothing happed, as animal kept quite but Dhoni got the important boundaries. 14th over turned things round as both Skipper and hayden got out in the consecutive deliveries. Hayden had a strange innings of 35 runs from 31 balls. Badri and Hussey played out the rest of the overs without much fire power, as they got only 41 runs from last 5 overs. CSK would have felt they are short of 10 to 15 runs after a decent start. Mumbai bowlers as usual did the work, and fielding was pretty ordinary, (cant say these day as all teams drop one r two)…

CSK 165/4 in 20 overs.

M.Hayden 35        M.Dhoni 31
Pollard 2/27       Harbhajan 1/23

MI 141/9 in 20 overs.

Sachin 45             Harbhajan 33
R.Ashwin 2/22    Thusara 2/16

Mumbai will like to draw confidence from their previous match against CSK, where they chased down 180+ easily. Both Sachin and Thawan gave a solid start as they were 46/0 in 6 overs. Thawan chopped one into stumps the very first ball of Thusara to give Chennai their first break,  Chennai bowled three quiet overs in the middle to peck back Mumbai and run rate was closing nearer 9.  At Strategic time out, Sachin walkes off retired ill as he wasn’t able to cope up the dehydration. Plus he thought his batsmen could complete the job for the day… Scorecard read 62/1 in 9 overs.

A wicketless wicket came for Chennai at the right time and call it luck charm as Mumbai drastically lost the plot as they lost one wicket every over from then to lose themselves to 92/7 in 15 overs. In the space of 6 over Mumbai lost the whole middle order for 30 odd runs. Not to leave out some brilliant piece of catching and fielding by Chennai, (Seen after a very long time from Chennai). Sachin came back after brief rest but runrate was up to 15 per over and he couldn’t do much other than lofting one to long on to bring himself back to pavilion. Bhajji tried his hand out to score few sixes against bolinger, but wasn’t quite enough to match the req total. Finally Mumbai lost a game after a winning spree. Mumbai team today just looked like Indian team in the period of 90’s as ppl switch off their TV’s if sachin is out, same the case today. Sachin retired here for a change and rest all fell like pack of cards. Good all round show by Chennai to seal third in a row. Now the competition gets tighter for Top four…
