April 23, 2012 at 11:46 pm (Cricket, IPL, IPL 2012, IPL 5) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi all,

Another Double header Sunday…

Match 28:

Mumbai Indians Vs Kings XI Punjab

KXIP needs to win this game to be in the pool of points table, and they will face a mighty task though. Mumbai won the toss and decided to bat first, having brought Sachin back into the squad. Start was quiet slow though as they piled up close to 6 runs per over at the midway and they lost Sachin & Rohit Sharma. Some late hitting’s from Dinesh Karthik & Opener Franklin made sure MI went past the average score 164/6 in 20 overs.

Match 28

Need a good start to steady the innings Saini & Mandeep gave them the one, as they took 48 runs in first 6 overs. After both the openers made their way back both Aussies Hussey & Marsh built a solid partnership in the middle overs. Hussey departed to up the antiques, but Marsh along with Azhar Mahmood in the end mad sure Kings XI once again crossed the ropes safely, this is second time he brings them a victory, out of 3. As KING XI won the match by 6 wickets with 3 balls to spare.

Match 29:

Kolkata Knight Riders Vs Deccan Chargers

DC needing a start for this season still searching for that elusive win, KKR will look to extend their run of winning. Gambhir decided to field first, Nothing much to write abt it, Rain delayed the start, but it was a 20 overs game still. Dhawan scored a fifty for himself, but none of the batsmen looked threatening, to say not even comfortable, as DC finished with 126/7 in 20 overs, Much lesser than the par score. Balaji & Lee were terrific with their pace bowling, as Lee amazed with 4 over 15/1.

Match 29

Knight riders had a easy chase in their hands, as always Steyn stepped up to the occasion picked up some wickets up front, but with the score like 126 u can’t do much, as KKR chased easily with 1 over and 5 wickets spare. Thanks to Gambhir & Tiwary who guided the chase smoothly. Lee got the man of the match for his fiery spell.

IPL 5: Day 9 – Morkel’s Blitz & Marsh’s Bliss seal the day…

April 13, 2012 at 1:24 am (Cricket, IPL, IPL 2012, IPL 5) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi all,

It’s been a fantastic day in IPL 5, One of the best match of this season has gone through.

Match 13:

Chennai Super Kings Vs Royal Challengers Bangalore

And again Dhoni lost the coin and had to field first in Chepauk, having lost their previous home game, they needed to win this in front of their home crowd, and also the fortress. Both Mayank Agarwal & Gayle gave a good fifty run start, surprising Gayle being the dormant partner. But thats all the time he kept himself quite and from then he swung his bat in all directions to make a carnage in Chennai’s bowling, 162 came up in 16 overs, he notched up 100 runs partnership between Kohli. However, close to 220 was always on, unless 5 wickets fell of the last 8 balls bowled, it didn’t help the cause. which meant RCB were 205/8 in 20 overs. A very good score in any T20 game.

Having to chase a big score, Chennai needed a good start and finally they got that with first fifty run partnership, but its the old veteran Muralidharan, who previously played with Chennai, claimed Murali to a blinder return catch. Raina flexed his muscles for time, but couldn’t stay long though, Dhoni promoted himself up the order cam smacked few before mistiming a helicopter shot. It boiled down to Bravo & Morkel, who has to face the penultimate over of Virat Kohli… And what has happened six balls after that was a massacre Kohli can’t take it off from his dreams. He pummeled 28 runs of that over, leaving 15 to get in the final Vinay kumar over. Having scored 28 runs, Chennai managed the 15 runs in the last over thanks to Bravo’s one hand sixer, and Jadeja’s kitchen sink style shot to win the game in the very last ball. It was a cracker of the day….

Match 14:

Pune Warriors India Vs Kings XI Punjab

Having won the other two games Dada will like to make it a hat-trick, and Gilly and team doesn’t want the same to be in the losing front. Gilly won the coin and decided to field first in a good bowling pitch, and Mascarnenhas made the best use of the condition and picked up his first 5 wicket haul in IPL. Which meant PWI got bowled out for 115 in 19 overs.

Having to chase less than 6 runs an over, is always a good deal, but not if u lose the wicket on the very first ball of the game. From then its Aussie’s time as both Marsh and Gilly stitched a 50 runs partnership between them, before losing out. Marsh never lost this cool, he was calm and the glimpses of IPL season 1 began to show in his class. Not much support needed from other end in a low score chasing game, still Chawla stayed there to finish the game for Kings XI Punjab and to bring the dimple smile out of Preethi Zinda’s face.

Interesting Facts as on Day 9:

–          RCB registered the fastest team fifty of the season by scoring in 4.5 overs, bettering KKR’s 5.1 overs.

–          97 runs in first 10 overs is the highest total in the first 10 overs for this season.

–          109 runs between Gayle & Kohli is the highest of this season also the first 100 runs & above partnership.

–          56 runs for the first wicket is the first fifty runs partnership between Murali & Faf Du Plessis.

–          23 sixes scored (12-RCB & 11 CSK) is the Most sixes in any match in IPL history so far.

–          28 runs in 19th over is the highest scored in an over for this season.

–          Second 5 wicket haul in this season, Ravindra Jadeja was the other who took 5 wicket haul this season, against Deccan Chargers.

–          Second time in IPL 5, a wicket has fallen on the very first ball of the over, this time its Paul Valthathy, and last time it was Murali Vijay running short.

–          Shaun March became the quickest to reach 1000 runs in IPL, in just 21 innings.

–          50 runs scored by Chris Gayle in 27 balls is the fastest fifty for this season, bettered 28 ball fifty by Gambhir.

–          Parvinder Awana made his debut for KXIP.

–          Shaun Marsh scored the 150th Six of IPL 5.

–          413 runs scored as the aggregate is the highest ever for this season, bettering yesterday’s aggregate of 367 by Rajasthan & Mumbai.

–          Second game of this season to finish in the last ball of the match.

–          Pune Warriors became the first team of this season to bowl their innings without even offering a single extra.

–          With 6 sixes, Gayle scored the maximum no. of sixes by an individual in an innings, bettering Bravo’s 5 sixes.

IPL 4: DAY 38 Review…

May 16, 2011 at 12:06 am (Cricket, IPL, IPL 2011, IPL 4) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi Guys,

Match 60, KXIP need 3 out of 3 to be in the play offs, Gilly the captain who has done it for Deccan’s two years ago to win 4 out of 4 and make it semi’s and eventually going on to win the cup in the second season. Hopes won the toss and decided to field first, Again a failed batting performance for Gilchrist, but Paul Valthaty and Shaun Marsh made amends, as they went on to put 102 run partnership. Once both departed of consecutive deliveries run rate slowed down and KXIP ended their innings with 170/6 in 20 overs. Delhi showed no intent in winning the game, that to after losing the first 3 wicket, they were buried dead alive. DD finished at 141/8 in 20 overs, giving KXIP a much needed win with 29 runs slack. All now Gilly and Preity will be hoping for is just 2 wins. We can say, if Gilly can pull next one against RCB’s then, they are well and truly home as they will face Deccan’s in the final encounter.

Match 61, Warne’s Royals needed this win badly to stay in the competition, A very important game for Rajasthan, but to me its the worst game they ever played for this season, Poor shot right from the beginning led no where other than to bundle out less 100, with paltry 97 in 18.3 overs. Where a score of 180 is par one just because of shorter boundaries on both ends. Kochi Tuskers did no wrong as McCullum and Hodge no time in wasting scored the 98 runs in just 7.2 overs with the loss of 2 wickets. KTK decimated Royals and they chucked them out of competition of this season. Hopefully Royals sans Warne should do well.

Standings as on DAY 38:

image

As of Now Teams for Semi’s:

1. Royal Challengers Bangalore 2. Chennai Super Kings, 3. Mumbai Indians, and 4.Kolkata Knight Riders.

Cat on wall:

1.Kings XI Punjab and 2. Kochi Tuskers Kerala (Just Mathematically, nothing serious)

Out of Contention:

1. Delhi Daredevils, 2, Pune Warriors, 3. Rajasthan Royals and 4. Deccan Chargers.

Interesting facts as on DAY 38:

– Victory for KTK with 76 balls to spare is the highest ever for the season, and second highest for IPL. List was topped by Mumbai’s victory over Kolkata with 87 balls to spare in first season of IPL. Ironically both the times wicket victory margin was 8 wickets. To add up in the twenty20 internationals, this is 4th highest in terms of balls remaining.

– Praveen Kumar bowled the 25th Maiden of this tournament, and he is also the only bowler to bowl 6 Maidens in the IPL tournament. He has bowled 4 in this season.

– Rajasthan Royals become the 3rd team officially to be knocked out of this tournament after Delhi and Deccan, after winning the IPL cup in 2008, they are yet to make into final four, and now they score Hattrick. (Not the way Warne would have wanted his IPL career to end)

– Paul Valthaty became the second batsmen to score 50+ boundaries in IPL this season, he went past Shewag’s 51.

– Paul Valthaty also went past Chris Gayle to pick up the Orange cap from him; he was the sixth batsmen to go past 400 run mark this season.

– Brad Hodge became the 11th bowler to pick 4 or more wickets for this season.

– Paul Valthaty scored his 2nd Fifty of this season.

– Brad Hodge scored the 1600th Boundary and Brendon McCullum scored the 500th Six of IPL 4.

– 102 runs partnership between Paul Valthaty and Shaun Marsh is their highest 2nd wicket partnership for this season.

At the end of DAY 38:

No.of Catches Dropped for the day – 5

Total no.of Boundaries – 1606

Total no.of Sixes –505

Orange Cap – Paul Valthaty (438) followed by Chris Gayle (436)

Purple Cap – S.Malinga (27) followed by Munaf Patel (17)

Most Sixes – Chris Gayle (32) followed by Paul Valthaty (19)

Most Fours –Paul Valthaty (52) followed by Virender Shewag (51)

Longest Six – Albie Morkel (114 M & 109 M) followed by Chris Gayle (109 M)

April 23, 2011 at 11:55 pm (Cricket, IPL, IPL 2011, IPL 4) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi Guys,

Surprised just one game on a Saturday evening, But i am sure none was disappointed has we had a run fest in Delhi.

Languishing in the bottom of the table Delhi certainly needed something spl to bring their sprits up and it was the day, Gilly won the coin and felt something is there for bowlers and went for chase and it did show how well they misread the pitch. Shewag and Warner amazed 146 for first wicket, before Shewag wanted 6 sixes in an over got caught in long on. Warner, Venugopal Rao, Ojha, all did their part to get Delhi to their highest ever total in IPL so far. 231/4 in 20 overs, Chasing almost 2 runs a ball right from the start is very tough but Punjab was in no mood to give up, as Gilly and Marsh kept going and found the crowd profusely, esp the latter. As said, it wasn’t easy though KXIP came very close to that, by reaching 202/6 in 20 overs, not a bad chase though. Finally Delhi will have a reason to smile after losing three games on a trot, still they are right in the bottom but not by much. Very soon this table will turn on its head. Watch out guys. Delhi won the game by 29 runs.

April 21, 2011 at 11:55 pm (Cricket, IPL, IPL 2011, IPL 4) (, , , , , , , , , , )

Hi Guys,

Full Aussie flavoured Match as, Two Aussie veterans face each other, Warne won the coin from Gilly and decided to chase, which has been a trend in IPL in this season so far. Nothing much to do by Warnie bowler, as they were massacred by KXIP batsmen and RR bowlers picked two wickets in two no balls, and both of the openers. In simple nothing went right and its de day for Preity to be all smiles and dimple, which see was able to keep it all de day till the end, As KXIP won the match by 48 runs.
