IPL 5: Day 45 – Table toppers secure their lead to meet in Qualifier…

May 20, 2012 at 12:10 am (Cricket, IPL, IPL 2012, IPL 5) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi all,

A day before the close of the league games of this season of IPL.

Match 69:

Kings XI Punjab Vs Delhi Daredevils

Kings need to win this game atleast to be in the contention for the Play off’s, Delhi will look to secure the top spot, which give them a chance more for them to take the cup.

Dharmasala it is, Delhi won the toss and decided to field first. KIXP was left to taste their own medicine, which they offered CSK couple of days back, this time Umesh Yadav, Varun Aaron & Morne Morkel provided it to KXIP as they were tottering at 20/4 in 5 overs. How ever Chitnis, & Azhar Mahamood played a sensible innings in the middle and late surge from Gurkreet ensure KXIP finished with a decent 141 runs on the board.

For team like Delhi who are mostly Batting heavy, 140 was always gonna be easy, and if Warner was in the mood just like today, least could be spoke about other, as Warner himself won the game for Delhi, In the end V Rao did some finishing off’s to win the game and end the league stage on a high note.

Delhi Daredevils won the game by 6 wickets with 10 balls to spare…

Match 70:

Pune Warriors India Vs Kolkata Knight Riders

KKR need to win this to ensure their second position, on the other hand, Pune wants to finish with a win infront of the home crowd. Also this win will ensure that even if Deccan’s win tomorrow Pune don’t end up being the wooden spooners.

KKR won the toss and decided to Bat first, All of a sudden PWI bowled really well and their fielding was too good, which meant KKR reached their 50 runs in 10.5 overs. Having McCullum in the crease for this long time. But Shakib switched himself to power mode which gave necessary impetus KKR looked for and Run rate came back very fast. Shakib finshed with 42 and McCullum finished with 41 runs. KKR finished with 136/4 in 20 overs.

Needing to win to end their losing streak, PWI started with a boundary, but they hardly didn’t know that was going to be their only Boundary for the entire innings. Jesse Ryder got couple of Big hits over the fence and that’s all to say, as others walked past the crease and gone before u could read their names in full. PWI finished with a dismal 102/8 in 20 overs.

KKR won the match by 34 runs…

Standings as on DAY 45:

From the points table we can clearly say, we have just one more slot to fill it in, and two teams in contention is Royal Challengers Bangalore & Chennai Super Kings.

Equation for RCB is quite simple, win the game enter Playoff’s, if you lose the game, better luck RCB we will meet next year, and CSK must the luckiest team ever in IPL history, having 3 other results have gone their way to bring them into Playoff’s.

Interesting facts as on Day 45:

–          Umesh Yadav bowled the 26th Maiden of IPL 5.

–          4/20 is the best figures for Morne Morkel in this season of IPL, and now undisputedly he leads the wicket takers list.

–          Andre Russell became the 7th Bowler & 8th time to concede more 50 runs in the four overs bowled, other were Amit Singh, M Gony, A Nehra, M Patel, Vinay Kumar (twice) & M Morkel.

–          Second time for KXIP to get lost in the same venue (Dharmasala) which eventually taken them out of competition.

–          1 Boundary & 2 sixes are the only boundaries scored by Pune Warriors India which means just 16 runs came of boundaries is the lowest ever in IPL history. Ironically, previous lowest runs scored in boundary is also by Pune Warriors 32 runs (5 fours & 2 sixes).

–          94 balls without boundary is the highest ever in IPL history. Pune’s last boundary came in 4.2 overs when Jesse Ryder smoked one over long off, unfortunately they didn’t know that was their last one for the day.

–          Pune Warriors have now lost nine consecutive matches in this year’s IPL. This is now the new record for the most consecutive defeats in this tournament. Deccan’s previously lost 8 in a row.

–          With loss for KXIP, Mumbai Indians becomes the third team to qualify for the Playoff’s.

–          Delhi Daredevils have won 9 games while batting first in this season, out of their 11 wins.

–          Delhi Daredevils were the team which finished last in IPL 4, and now they finish as the League toppers.

At the end of DAY 45:

No. of Catches dropped for the day – 5

Total no. of Boundaries – 1741

Total no. of Sixes – 662

Longest Six – Chris Gayle – 111,109,106,106 &106 Meters followed by Kieron Pollard – 105 Meters.

Most no. of Fours – A.Rahane (71) followed by R.Dravid (62)

Most no. of Sixes –Chris Gayle (57) followed by K.Pietersen (20)

Orange Cap – Chris Gayle (706) followed by S.Dhawan (564)

IPL 4: DAY 38 Review…

May 16, 2011 at 12:06 am (Cricket, IPL, IPL 2011, IPL 4) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi Guys,

Match 60, KXIP need 3 out of 3 to be in the play offs, Gilly the captain who has done it for Deccan’s two years ago to win 4 out of 4 and make it semi’s and eventually going on to win the cup in the second season. Hopes won the toss and decided to field first, Again a failed batting performance for Gilchrist, but Paul Valthaty and Shaun Marsh made amends, as they went on to put 102 run partnership. Once both departed of consecutive deliveries run rate slowed down and KXIP ended their innings with 170/6 in 20 overs. Delhi showed no intent in winning the game, that to after losing the first 3 wicket, they were buried dead alive. DD finished at 141/8 in 20 overs, giving KXIP a much needed win with 29 runs slack. All now Gilly and Preity will be hoping for is just 2 wins. We can say, if Gilly can pull next one against RCB’s then, they are well and truly home as they will face Deccan’s in the final encounter.

Match 61, Warne’s Royals needed this win badly to stay in the competition, A very important game for Rajasthan, but to me its the worst game they ever played for this season, Poor shot right from the beginning led no where other than to bundle out less 100, with paltry 97 in 18.3 overs. Where a score of 180 is par one just because of shorter boundaries on both ends. Kochi Tuskers did no wrong as McCullum and Hodge no time in wasting scored the 98 runs in just 7.2 overs with the loss of 2 wickets. KTK decimated Royals and they chucked them out of competition of this season. Hopefully Royals sans Warne should do well.

Standings as on DAY 38:

As of Now Teams for Semi’s:

1. Royal Challengers Bangalore 2. Chennai Super Kings, 3. Mumbai Indians, and 4.Kolkata Knight Riders.

Cat on wall:

1.Kings XI Punjab and 2. Kochi Tuskers Kerala (Just Mathematically, nothing serious)

Out of Contention:

1. Delhi Daredevils, 2, Pune Warriors, 3. Rajasthan Royals and 4. Deccan Chargers.

Interesting facts as on DAY 38:

– Victory for KTK with 76 balls to spare is the highest ever for the season, and second highest for IPL. List was topped by Mumbai’s victory over Kolkata with 87 balls to spare in first season of IPL. Ironically both the times wicket victory margin was 8 wickets. To add up in the twenty20 internationals, this is 4th highest in terms of balls remaining.

– Praveen Kumar bowled the 25th Maiden of this tournament, and he is also the only bowler to bowl 6 Maidens in the IPL tournament. He has bowled 4 in this season.

– Rajasthan Royals become the 3rd team officially to be knocked out of this tournament after Delhi and Deccan, after winning the IPL cup in 2008, they are yet to make into final four, and now they score Hattrick. (Not the way Warne would have wanted his IPL career to end)

– Paul Valthaty became the second batsmen to score 50+ boundaries in IPL this season, he went past Shewag’s 51.

– Paul Valthaty also went past Chris Gayle to pick up the Orange cap from him; he was the sixth batsmen to go past 400 run mark this season.

– Brad Hodge became the 11th bowler to pick 4 or more wickets for this season.

– Paul Valthaty scored his 2nd Fifty of this season.

– Brad Hodge scored the 1600th Boundary and Brendon McCullum scored the 500th Six of IPL 4.

– 102 runs partnership between Paul Valthaty and Shaun Marsh is their highest 2nd wicket partnership for this season.

At the end of DAY 38:

No.of Catches Dropped for the day – 5

Total no.of Boundaries – 1606

Total no.of Sixes –505

Orange Cap – Paul Valthaty (438) followed by Chris Gayle (436)

Purple Cap – S.Malinga (27) followed by Munaf Patel (17)

Most Sixes – Chris Gayle (32) followed by Paul Valthaty (19)

Most Fours –Paul Valthaty (52) followed by Virender Shewag (51)

Longest Six – Albie Morkel (114 M & 109 M) followed by Chris Gayle (109 M)

IPL 4: DAY 31 Review…

May 9, 2011 at 12:33 am (Cricket, IPL, IPL 2011, IPL 4) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi Guys,

Match 50, Jaywardene locks horns with Vettori, on an important game to keep themselves safe for the coming games. As he won the coin and decided to bat, things looke good when they were 64/1 in 9 overs, but from then, its Men in Green proved too much to keep Tuskars out of the game as they ended with just paltry 125/9 in 20 overs. Later in the match One man with mission Gayle went ballistic once again to give KTK a huge shock as he piled 37 runs in an over, with 4 sixes and 3 boundaries including a no ball. Which literally closed the doors for KTK and its over as Kohli and Dilshan finished the rituals with 9 wickets to spare along with 41 deliveries.

Match 51, With 7 loses on trot for Yuvi and a crucial game for KXIP, as Gilly decided to bat first, he wasn’t there to make his decision right but Shaun marsh, Dinesh Karthik and Valthaty tried level best to bring KXIP to 119/8 in 20 overs. Again Rahul Sharma was the key bowler for Pune, as he picked two crucial opening wickets at the right time. A 6 run per over chase was always easy and it was as Ryder, Uthappa and later Yuvi all chipped in to end the 7 match losing streak for Pune. Eventhough they are out of contention for this season, Yuvi was very sure to spoil the party of others.

Standings as on DAY 31:

As of Now Teams for Semi’s:

1. Mumbai Indians, 2. Kolkata Knight Riders and 3. Royal Challengers Bangalore

Cat on wall:

1. Chennai Super Kings, 2. Rajasthan Royals, 3.Kochi Tuskers Kerala and 4. Kings XI Punjab.

Out of Contention for this season:

1. Delhi Daredevils, 2, Pune Warriors, and 3. Deccan Chargers

Interesting facts on DAY 31:

– Victory with 41 balls to spare is the tied for the highest along with Pune for this season, personally for RCB this is their second best in terms of balls remaining in IPL, Best was 56 balls vs Rajasthan in last season.

– 37 runs scored by Chris Gayle is the highest ever scored in an over in IPL and to take for, in the T20 internationals too, Yuvi scored only 36 runs when he went 6 times over the rope.

– Bredon McCullum scored the 1300th Boundary of IPL 4.

– Dilshan scored the second fifty of this season.

– Praveen Kumar Bowled the 23rd Maiden of this season.

At the end of DAY 31:

No.of Catches Dropped for the day – 2

Total no.of Boundaries – 1350

Total no.of Sixes –411

Most Fours – Virender Shewag (51) followed by Paul Valthaty (42)

Longest Six – Albie Morkel (114 M & 109 M) followed by Chris Gayle (109 M)

IPL 4: DAY 28 Review…

May 5, 2011 at 11:59 pm (Cricket, IPL, IPL 2011, IPL 4) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi Guys,

Match 45, Giant KKR Vs Giant Killers KTK, Gambhir won the toss and what else he want to field, as he expected his bowlers delivered very fast by removing McCullum and Parthiv Patel.  Jayawardene held the innings and went past his fifty in gritty times, late surge from Brad Hodge made sure KTK went past 156/5 in 20 overs. KKR went on to get the best start of the tournament, with Kallis and Morgan setting the perfect platform, But a double strike from Gomez got KTK back into game and from then, KTK kept the necessary checks to pull KKR just before the ropes, Even a Valiant 66 from Morgan couldn’t help the cause as they fell short of 17 runs.

Match 46, A dumbstruck match that’s what any1 who witnessed will describe it, One man can’t win a 11 men game, no i am wrong, Just one man can win it all… Yes, It’s possible if u call yourself Virender Shewag… A Superlative pronoun Century from the Delhi skipper, told the tale for Deccan’s as they have won only one of their home games in this season, and it will be to.  Sangakarra, Duminy, Christian all powered Deccan’s past 175/5 in 20 overs, Delhi started off with the worst ever fashion, but One man did it all, so rest can feel so safe around him. A Astounding 119 got Delhi home with 4 wickets and 6 balls to spare. With this Delhi pickup an important win, to keep them in competition.

Standings as on DAY 28:

Interesting facts on DAY 28:

– 69 runs between Kallis and Morgan is the best opening partnership for KKR for this season.

– Kallis went past 300 runs for this season and he is fifth one to do so.

– R.Gomez bowled the 4th Double wicket Maiden of this season, Praveen Kumar, Dougie Bollinger and Sreesanth were the others.

– Eoin Morgan scored his first IPL fifty.

– Shewag scored his first IPL century in IPL and 3rd by a Delhi Player, his previous best was 94*Vs Deccan Chargers.

– Shewag’s Century is the 4th one of this season and 16th overall in IPL so far.

– Shewag’s is the first man to go past 400 runs mark in IPL 4.

– Shewag also went past his 1500 IPL runs for Delhi Daredevils, he is now with 1516.

– 119 by Shewag is also the highest ever by any Delhi Player, previous were 107* by Warner and 105* by AB de Villers.

IPL 4: DAY 23 Review…

May 1, 2011 at 12:03 am (Cricket, IPL, IPL 2011, IPL 4) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi Guys,

Match 36, With a must win Situation for Delhi, Shewag went in to bat with Warner, Pitch was so footballer’s friendly which is so it hardly had any bounce, most of the balls kept low. Its de pitch where every1 was struggling and Delhi skipper alone playing in some kind of different track, he was so fluent and smacking the balls all over the park. Finally they ended the innings with 157/7 in 20 overs, which is more than enough in this wicket, and indeed it was, Kochi went in without any plan to play out in a different pitch, had nothing to do, just losing the wicket to the balls keeping low all the time. Finally Shewag having a big smile with 38 runs victory over KTK, which also put an end to 5 straight defeats for Delhi.

Match 37, Its been a long gap for KXIP as they take field almost after a week time against KKR who seems to be in prime form under the new cool head Gambhir, Hardly pressure of batting goes down the order as the top order looks so stable. As a formula, Gambhir won the toss and decided to field first, KXIP looked so jittery as they went for some headless running at the top which seems to be the death blow for them, Except Dinesh karthik, none helped KXIP to stabilize which meant KXIP finished their 20 overs with just 119 runs on the board. Needing exactly six an over, KKR had a small set back after losing Kallis and Morgan, But Captain cool and Manoj Tiwary played down the rest overs with unbroken 85 runs partnership to seal the 8 wickets victory for KKR.

Standings as on DAY 23:

Interesting facts on DAY 23:

– Till Today IPL 4 has 55 ducks and as expected special number goes to Ajit Agarkar who secured the fiftieth duck of this season in the game between Delhi and KKR two days back.

– KKR’s 8 wicket win is the 8th 8 wicket win in this season.

– Sreesanth bowled the 14th Maiden of this season and 3rd Double wicket maiden after Praveen Kumar and Doug Bollinger.

– Shewag scored his 10th IPL fifty and the score of 80 is the best for this season, bettering 70 scored against KKR.

– It’s also the fiftieth match for Shewag in IPL.

– Shewag’s in the last fifteen balls scored 49 runs, ever highest by any player in IPL 4.

– Bredon McCullum went past 200 runs in IPL season 4, he is now with 203 runs.

– This is third time for KTK to be all out in this season, highest by any team.

– 85* runs between Gambhir and Tiwary for third wicket is the highest for KKR’s in this season.

At the end of DAY 23:

No.of Catches Dropped for the day – 1

Total no.of Boundaries – 961

Total no.of Sixes –313

Orange Cap –Virat Kohli (294) followed by Virender Shewag (288)

Purple Cap – S.Malinga (17) followed by Iqbal Abdulla (10)

Most Sixes – Yuvraj Singh (13) followed Chris Gayle (12)

Most Fours –Virender Shewag (36) followed by Paul Valthaty (33)

Longest Six – David Hussey (106 M) followed by Shaun Marsh (105 M)

Hi guys,

Match 31, Chennai taking on Pune again after two days here in DY patil Stadium, Nothing much changed, just this time Pune batted first and scored just 1 run less than the CSK’s score in Chennai, 141/6 in 20 overs, And in reply Chennai lost Hussey early, But Vijay and Badri Steadied the middle innings and Badri with Raina finished the final few overs in ease to win with 8 wickets to spare, Win Which takes Chennai right on top to the second spot.

Match 32, Another game where Kochi had no answer to inspired bowling from Ishant sharma, Not much to say as Deccan’s played so poorly so that they managed to score just 130 runs and Kochi to say was taken aback by the Dumbstruck bowling of Ishant Sharma who rocked the Kochi’s in their own place, Not to leave out Steyn who picked 3 wickets to his name too. Overall a pathetic display of batting from KTK to end their innings at third ever lowest IPL score, also to add 6 ducks to their innings. DC won the match by 55 runs.

Standings as on DAY 20:

Interesting facts on DAY 20:

– Doug Bollinger bowled the 8th Maiden of this season, Last match Ashwin had a wicket Maiden and this time it’s Bollinger who has a double wicket maiden.

– Its Second time in the season we have a Double wicket Maiden , Previous one was by Praveen Kumar against Chennai.

– Yuvraj has never ever won a match in IPL against MSD!! It is currently 0-8. The only time he tied the match and won it in a super over, vs CSK, MSD wasn’t playing that match.

– 37/3 in 10 overs by DC is lowest scored in the IPL season 4.

– 74 is the overall 3rd time lowest score in IPL, 58 runs is the lowest score in IPL scored by Rajasthan Royals.

– For the first time in IPL had 5 Maiden’s bowled in a single day.

– 3-0-12-5 by Ishant Sharma is the third time best bowling figures in IPL so far, Sohail Tanvir 6/14 leads followed by Kumble’s 5/5.

– Ishant Sharma went past Malinga’s Best figure of 5/13, to be the best bowling figure of this season so far.

– 6 ducks in an innings is the highest ever in an IPL game so far, previous was 5 by Delhi and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

– Both Murali Vijay and Badrinath went past 1000 runs IPL; they are now 1023 runs and 1015 runs respectively.

– Badrinath scored the 9th IPL fifty and 3rd of this season.

– Deccan’s victory of 55 runs is the highest in terms of defending in this season, previous was 48 runs by Pune.

– Alfonso Thomas, Murali Kartik, Sreesanth, Dale Steyn bowled the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th Maidens respectively.

– Gomez (KTK) becomes first player of this season to pick the third duck out of five innings he played in the other two innings he wasn’t out, LOL…

At the end of DAY 20:

No.of Catches Dropped for the day – 1

Total no.of Boundaries – 860

Total no.of Sixes –272

Orange Cap – Sachin Tendulkar (269) followed by P.Valhathy (261)

IPL 3: Day 24 Review…

April 6, 2010 at 12:58 am (IPL, IPL 3) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi Guys,

Its Sunday… Me in Chennai went to Two Movies – Angadi theru and Paiyaa… Will review it in the coming days… (certainly need a refreshing break from IPL) (for me and Blog as well, both looks monotonous):)

Match 34 Review:
Kolkata Knight Riders Vs Kings XI Punjab

Finally Kings XI broke the jinx, and pulled a stunning victory over, Kolkata Knight riders, many call it a upsetter, but i dont think so, KXIP is a good team, just failed to click tats it… After a Blitzkrieg from Gayle, KKR went on to score 200 in 20 overs, No one (even Tom Moody) would have believed that KXIP will pull this one, But its certainly the brilliant innings from the last minute inclusion Jayawardene (due to Shaun March injury), who played a Gem of an innings on his way to his maiden T20 century. On the progress helping KXIP to register their second victory of this season. (So called Upsetter, Actually i dont count KKR for semi’s contention at all 🙂 lol…)

KKR 200/3 in 20 overs.

C.Gayle 88            Ganguly  36
J.Theron 1/36      I.Pathan  1/36

KXIP 204/2 in 18.2 overs.

M.Jayawardene 110*     Sangakarra 38
S.Bond 1/32               M.Karthik 1/41

Match 35 Review:
Delhi Daredevils Vs Royal Challengers Bangalore

A game expected to be a cruncher, just turned toothless giant who is trying to eat a pile of steel. Collingwood coming good for Delhi as they went on to score 184 in 20 overs, well supported by Shewag and warner in the early stages. RCB chasing looked so lethargic, esp Kallis was tied down from scoring runs, he did score 54 but off 42 balls, which really made the difference. IPL 3: Day 19 Review…

March 31, 2010 at 12:21 am (IPL, IPL 3) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi guys,

Its Day 19 in IPL 3…

Match 27 Review:
Kings XI Punjab Vs Mumbai Indians

Two teams of total contrast to say, One team heads the points table and the other just languishing in the bottom of the table and really finding difficult to find back the form.  Sachin won the toss and decided to bowl first, With the formidable team to backup, he can merely ignore them.  Mahela being the new captain for KXIP, (Dont think Sangakarra was removed from the squad bcos of his performance) he is fined for the slow over rate, Remember last match he took 1.45 hours to bowl 20 overs. Another fact to add, Today, Sachin took almost the same hours to bowl…. So keep ur eyes open for a MI, May be without Sachin for the next match, r just some fine will do too….

Coming back to match, KXIP needed a better start than previous outings, But it wasn’t the case, as Zak removed Bopara cheaply for a single, Shaun Marsh back into team in place of Sangakarra(if u very well remember he is the orange cap winner in 2008), Shaun started the things of well, inspite of losing Bisla too cheaply, Stand in Skipper and Marsh did play really well, eventhough the boundaries are hard to come, both too risky singles and ran well between the wickets. But one too many in the end, ended their partnership with a bizarre runout. Out of form Yuvraj didnt make much impression either,  in between Shaun marsh scored his 6th IPL fifty,(first of this season in his very first game). Just when KXIP thought to accelerate, Slinger Malinga came to destroy their hope as he removed Pathan and Marsh in back to back deliveries. From then on wickets fell every over, and many didnt make trouble to scorecard, except Chawla who got KXIP to a score if 163 with few lus(c)ty blows… 🙂 Preity was quite contented with the score it seems…

KXIP 163/10 in 20 overs.

S.Marsh 57           P.Chawla 22
Malinga 4/22      Zaheer 3/34

MI 164/6 in 19.3 overs.

S.Dhawan 50    S.Tiwary 31
Bopara 3/31    Pathan 1/20

After a commendable bowling performance, Mumbai began well the chase, as Sachin became the highest run getter in IPL and now the proud owner of Orange Cap. (Seriously Orange doesn’t look cool with dark blue, Whatever), Just when he crossed Kallis, he was caught in long on and had to head back to pavilion, Pollard walked in at no.3 to all surprise,  Both Dhawan and pollard played out another 5 overs and scored the required run rate score, in the brief innings Pollard had a go at chwla, taking him for a four and six. Bopara came in to bowl and he did pick Dhawan who just completed his fifty. All of a sudden runs dried up and KXIP started feeling they are having the chance in the game, As Rayudu walked back to a soft dismissals followed Bravo, after a highest six(not longest)…  With 3 overs to go 31 to win, Tiwary and Satish sticked together and got the necessary runs and held their nerves, Eventhough Tiwary was out in the last ball of 19th over, Sathish kept himself cool and faced Brett lee and did score 6 runs which is necessary to take Mumabi Indians home (Thanks to sloppy fielding from KXIP), to the joy of Mukesh Ambani, whos jumping in the lobby. To mention eventhough KXIP got the necessary runs r either their Bowling was good, Fielding so poor, which has totally let their team down. Mumbai Indians won the match by 4 wickets and points table will have no reflections just other than the increased points for Mumbai Indians.
