IPL 3: Day 6 Review…

March 18, 2010 at 12:53 am (IPL, IPL 3) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi guys,

Its Day 6 in IPL season 3…

Match 9 Review:
Mumbai Indians Vs Delhi Daredevils

Delhi Daredevils having won their first two games, will look to continue their streak, but tha will not be just easy bcos, its Mumbai Indians, who has just got back two of their best West Indian Players back into squad, after their Zimbabwe tour. Without doubt i am talking about Dwayne Bravo and Kieron pollard(Costliest pick of IPL ever)…

And no one could forget Kotla track after the last match has been abandoned here due to worst unplayable pitch condition, but things look different today, Gauti won the toss and to all surprise he decided to field first. (do u call this as local boy’s confident or Over confident…?) Sachin was quite happy to bat first and it did show, as he started the proceedings with a boundary over cover.  That’s just a start for a tornado to swindle up Delhi in their home ground, Things got worse as skipper Gambhir left the field due to Hamstring injury and may be its all for Yogesh Nagar (Substitute for Gambhir) to pick Jayasuriya with a blinder in Mid on. But It didnt stop anything as Sachin raised passed his fifty in 23 balls. Tiwary, Rayudu, Tare all chipped in with runs to pile up the total. In end, Mumbai amassed a total of 218 in their 20 overs.

MI 218/7 in 20 overs.

Sachin 62            S.Tiwary 61
S.Ladda 2/44     Mishra 1/44

DD 120/9 in 16.3 overs.

Fervez Maharoof 28    Shewag 26
Jayasuriya 2/17           Bravo 2/11

MI WON MATCH BY 98 RUNS

Target of 219 is always a tough one, but with the glimpse of Dilshan, devillers and Shewag, Delhi would have banked upon them to deliver the goods, Dilshan started the things with a lusty blow over mid off for a boundary. Things looked good for 21 deliveries, and 22nd ball of the innings Malinga provided the vital break thru by removing his own countryman Dilshan. Devillers joined Shewag and kept things quite well till 6 overs, as they were 60/1 in 6 overs.  Sachiin brought in, Bravo right after powerplay was lifted, boy oh boy, he change the fortune of Delhi in just one over, removed Both Shewag and Devillers in the space of four balls. After then Nothing much to write abt delhi’s batting as Mumbai roared with another srilankan old war horse Jayasuriya to get his two scalps. Just like that Mumbai won the match in style with a thumping margin of 98, which will lift their runrate somewhere over +2.5… (if delhi loses their semis spot with runrate, then, they will serious look back this game for sure….)… Gambhir was still absent due to his Hamstring injury. (another latest to join the injury list)…

Already Dhoni CSK Skipper will miss out 10 days of action, due to injury in left hand(got hit by a 140 kmph delivery), which CSK will miss his action for minimum of 4 matches, and the new stand in Captain will be Suresh Raina (Serious Surprise, when u have many other senior players in team)… Whatever CSK will certainly miss the best ever Indian Captain Cool Mahi…: ( … Praying for him to comeback soon… – a CSK fan…

IPL 3: Day 5 Review…

March 17, 2010 at 12:27 am (IPL, IPL 3) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi guys, Its another Double header day… Day 5 in IPL Season 3….

Match 7 Review:
Kings XI Punjab Vs Royal Challengers Bangalore

Both the teams lost their opening game and looking to turnround their fortunes… Sangakarra won the toss and decided to Bat first,  Kings XI Punjab started their things slowly, and kept on increasing the run rate time by time… Yep indeed, right from over 8, run rate kept on increasing every over and it didnt stop at any instance and they went on to score a mammoth total of 203… Without any doubt preity Zinta was smiling and she had all the reasons for… Ravi Bopara being the top scorer with 77…

KXIP 203/3 in 20 overs.

Ravi Bopara 77     M.Bisla 75
D.Steyn 1/36     J.Kallis 1/39

RCB 204/2 in 18.5 overs.

Jacques Kallis 89*     Robin Uthappa 51
P.Chawla 1/20           B.Sharma 1/37

RCB WON MATCH BY 8 WICKETS

Royal Challengers had a real challenge infront of them, without any doubt, but both Kallis and Pandey started the proceedings really well… Kept the run rate always under check, didnt allow to to creep above 12, evev if it, didnt last more than 5 to 6 deleiveries. Robin Uthappa played a gem of an innings to get a fast 50, to alter the plans of sangakarra, actually he ran out of ideas at one stage as all bowlers went for bang bang, by Kallis ans Uthappa…  Kallis was so brilliant and he didnt give any chance to KXIP and the bowlers, later its just formality for kohli to finish the things off with Kallis in the other end. Kallis remained unbeaten.  Just to note still 7 more balls remaining in the innings… Now u could certainly call it a compromising win…

Match 8 Review:
Chennai Super Kings Vs Kolkata Knight Riders

Being last in the standings, Dhoni will certainly look to improve the performance and be back in the top of the tables. As expected he won the toss and decided to Bat first, but the things didnt look good as Matthew Hayden departed early just scoring a single. Murali Vijay and Raina did take the things slowly as they scored in singles, v cant blame them too, as ball wasn’t coming on to bat, plus u had a very inconsistent bounce, could see many balls keeping really low…  As both Murali Vijay and raina departed in the space of 3 balls, both Dhoni and Badrinath joined together and still run rate wasn’t so gr8. They were at 96 after 14 overs, but next six overs were the time Dhoni unleashed his arrogance and CSK scored 83 runs in the brief session… Ending CSK’s innings as with 164, at once they looked to settle down for 140, but its Dhoni power which got to a good score…

CSK 164/3 in 20 overs
M.S.Dhoni 66*   S.Badrinath 43*
Shukla 1/37     Ishant 1/38

KKR 109/10 in 19.2 overs
W.Saha 22            M.Karthik 21
J.Kemp 3/12      Balaji 2/9

CSK WON MATCH BY 55 RUNS.

Chasing a score of 165 is always possible in a T20 game, plus KKR had the support of their home crowd, so its gonna be a huge plus… But the things were real different as morkel picked the highest T20 scorer in the very second ball of the match for a Duck… From then on, KKR never looked for a moment that they are on to the chase, and they kept losing wicket in regular intervals. Match was quite over, when chennai had Mathews by the end of 10th over, and they were needing 94 runs in the last 10 overs and its last 4 wickets in the crease. so its all written and we could see Eden gardens getting empty by this time, last 4 just kept nudging single here there and played the inevitable. in the end its curtains from a direct hit from Badrinath. Justin Kemp picked 3 wickets and Balaji picked 2 to his name.  Finally a happy fan got chance to write a winning moment… With this win, CSK go straight up to 3rd position… 🙂 😀

Standings as on Day 5:

IPL 3: Day 4 Review…

March 16, 2010 at 12:04 am (IPL, IPL 3) (, , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi guys,

Its Day 4 in IPL 3… But it already started heating up in the points table…

Match 6 Review:
Rajasthan Royals Vs Delhi Daredevils

Confident Delhi takes on Rajasthan Royals, who desperately wants to starts their account in the point table. Gambhir won the toss and decided to Bowl first,  Swapnil started off well, b4 perishing to brilliant catch at point by Dilshan.  Same like Swapnil, Naman Ojha too tried his luck and kept going for the shots every delivery and luck ran out soon, as he too walked back to hut. In came local boy Yusuf Pathan with a huge roar, but b4 it could end, he had to return back… Rajasthan then kept losing wickets in the regular interval and none struck to crease for long, Abhishek Jhunjhunwala is the only one stayed till end to bring up his maiden half century. Bowling was really good from Delhi and Nannes was too good too handle…

RR 141/6 in 20 overs
Jhunjhunwala 53*             P.Dogra 29
D.Nannes  1/27    P.Sangwan 1/20

DD 142/4 in 17.1 overs
V.Shewag 75     Karthik 23*
S.Warne 1/22     Mascarenhas 2/31
DD WON MATCH BY 6 WICKETS

Target 142 was not a taunting one for any team in a T20 game, and its not for delhi too, and esp if u have someone like Shewag who blasted the Rajasthan bpwlers all over the park, Warne had no answers to this man, as he went for every ball and cruel to all…  and in spl note for Munaf Patel as he was the person who suffered a lot from him, but after a match winning innings he fell for an expensive slog to Munaf itself. Eventhough Royals had their man, Its all game delhi, bcos they just needed 4 runs a over when he departed. Rest is just for writing, Karthik did the formalities with few inside edges and classical drives. DD won the game with 17 balls to spare…

Standings as on Day 4:

image

Interesting Facts as on Day 4:

– Shewag scored his fifth IPL fifty.

– Shewag scored his 50 in 21 balls, which is fastest in IPL 3. (as of now)

– Yusuf Pathan became the first player to score a century in previous match and to be out for a Duck in the next match in T20 format.

– With today’s 75 to his total Shewag is in third position for orange cap, with the total of 83.

– Rajasthan lost their first Match in their home ground.

– Abhishek Jhunjhunwala scored his maiden IPL fifty

– Abhishek Jhunjhunwala’s 50 of 45 deliveries is the slowest IPL 50 scored.

At the end of DAY 4…

Total no.of Boundaries – 171
Total no.of Sixes – 64
Purple Cap – Chaminda Vaas (5) followed by Angelo Matthews (5)
Orange Cap – Yusuf Pathan (100) followed by Gilchrist (92).

IPL 3: Day 3 Review…

March 15, 2010 at 1:55 am (IPL, IPL 3) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi guys,

So its a double header and a Sunday, Couldn’t get better for guys in home… Perfect Entertainment… (Sure Cinema halls gone empty…:D)…

Actually i was way back to Chennai this evening, generally i used to book ticket by 7.30 pm… Bcos if ur a pondy guy u ll know the rush which will be available in the bus stand for chennai bus, cant expect a seat without reservation… But today i was totally surprised and taken back for a moment… Seriously man, the bus stand is total empty and there is no need for any reservation, all the buses are moving out just half full, (if its a normal sunday, u ll have 2 bus crowd in one)… But its all different today, Just that moment i realised the effect of IPL and how big a game for ppl… Jai ho Cricket…

Match 4 Review:
Kokata Knight Riders Vs Royal Challengers Bangalore

Confident Dada’s men taking their second match against Jumbo’s Men, Jumbo’s men will miss the presence of KP with them, this time… But they will have Kallis, who has flown a long way overnight to be in the team, (he was in South africa playing Pro 20 finals)..

Ganguly won the toss and decided to field first,  Being last year’s runners, RCB wouldnt have expected their season 3 to begin in the format it has, they were 3 down with just 24 runs in the board after first 6 overs and it became worse as they lost Eoin morgan in the very next over, Karthik being the culprit twice. In came Dravid and Kallis, two well renowned test players tried to repair the innings with few cricketing shots, But Dravid too fell for an expensive drive over cover. Later its just one man show, As kallis went past fifty and took RCB to a total of 135. Shud say KKR bowled really well, esp Angelo Mattews did all right, his line and length was spot on, really did trouble the batsmen… Seems Wasim Akram was a very good pick for Sharukh…

RCB 135/7 in 20 overs
Jacques Kallis 65*             Rahul Dravid 21
Angelo Matthews 4/19    M.Karthik 2/22

KKR 136/3 in 19.2 overs
Brad Hodge 50     M.Tiwary 50
P.Kumar 1/16     Van de merwe 2/27
KKR WON MATCH BY 7 WICKETS

Chasing a reasonable target, Mallya would have expected his boys to perform atleast with the ball, but tat wasn’t the case, bcos two KKR’s opening batsmen just smashed balls all around the park and its all over b4 u cud blink the eyes, After a 100 run partnership, tiwary departed, as i say, its all lost when RCB picked hodge after scoring his fifty. KKR needed just 24 from 36 balls. After having lost all the way, Kumble men woke up all of a sudden and seems to stop everything and really tried to make a game out of no where, but all did know, its just the delay and inevitable, in the end, Kumble digested the bitter pill. Cant say they fought hard expect for the last 6 overs. Dada and Sharukh khan who is in the ground had smiles all round.

KKR go up in the table with 4 points… (Watch out guys, seems history repeats itself)

Match 5 Review:
Chennai Super Kings Vs Deccan Chargers

As i mentioned b4 my journey time was exactly the same as the match time, so couldnt get chance to see the match other than presentation. But will just review with Cricinfo commentary.

Gilly have lost the pervious match, would be dying to win the match, on the contrary Dhoni will like to begin his campaign with a win… Gilly won the toss and decided to Bat first, right from the beginning nothing went in the way for Chennai as they kept on missing the chances, and gilly was inspired by Yusuf innings it seems he went gaga over Sudeep tyagi and which forced Dhoni to switch to his main Bowler Murali in the third over itself. Later in the next ashwin’s over Chennai did get double strike, removing both the openers, but it brought Symonds and Gibbs, and both were in no mood to relax and took CSK to squares. Late surge from Rohit sharma got Deccan’s to 190. Chennai bowling was the weakest among the all other 8 IPL teams and it did expose clearly, Tyagi had a horrible day going for  39 just in 11 deliveries he bowled.

DC 190/4 in 20 overs
A.Symonds 50             H.Gibbs 45
R.Ashwin 1/26      Muralitharan 0/28

CSK 159/9 in 20 overs
M.S.Dhoni 42     A.Morkel 42*
C.Vaas 3/21     P.Ojha 2/28
DC WON MATCH BY 31 RUNS.

Chasing a stiff target 191, Chennai needed a very good start, but it didn’t happen as Vaas ran thru the top order of CSK in no time and CSK was 34/4 by the end of 6 overs. Dhoni and Kemp did try for sometime, but creeping runrate demanded expensive shot and Kemp being the scrap of it, later Skipper was joined by Albie, both tried making best, but run rate never gone down and its curtains for CSK in Chennai home crowd… Thank god i didnt opt to go for this Match…

Standings as on DAY 3:

image

Interesting Facts of DAY 3:

– 24/3 scored by RCB is the lowest ever scored in the first 6 powerplay overs.

– Eoin Morgan began his IPL career with a Six over long off and also became the first IPL player to score his first runs with a six.

– Kallis scored his 5th IPL fifty

– Manoaj Tiwary scored maiden Fifty

– By defeating RCB and DC, KKR defeats both the last year Finalists.

– with CSK losing to DC, 3 out of 4 (except Delhi) lost their opening match.

– 34/4 by CSK is their worst ever performance in first 6 overs.

– 4/19 against KKR is the best performace for Angelo Mathews.

– At the end of DAY 3…

Total no.of Boundaries – 145
Total no.of Sixes – 55
Purple Cap – Chaminda Vaas (5) followed by Angelo Matthews (5)
Orange Cap – Yusuf Pathan (100) followed by Gilchrist (92)

Its already late for me… signing off…

IPL 3: Day 2 Review…

March 14, 2010 at 12:28 am (IPL, IPL 3) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi guys,

Its Day 2 in IPL 3…

A Double Header day… Mumbai Indians Vs Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Daredevils Vs Kings XI Punjab…

Match 2 Review:

Mumbai Indians Vs Rajasthan Royals

Last year this team placed themselves at 7th, just bettered wooden spooners KKR, But i shud say they did perform much than it really seems… Yes i am Talking abt Mumbai Indians…  May be Ambani’s didnt want the same to happen in the years to come, which cleared showed their intentions in getting Kieron Pollard, even they are ready to go Bankrupt for this hard hitting all rounder….  okay Tats all history now, Today is the day where IPl 3 unveils for Mumbaikar Sachin against his old enemy Shane warne’s royals..

Sachin won the toss and decided to bat first, And they did get off to a good start, Jayasuriya coined his shots until he missed a slower one from Uniyal (a ICL returnee) scoring rate didnt drop much even though they lost Sachin and keeper tare before powerplay could finish.  Both Youngster Rayudu and Tiwary had different mind game and played a fabulous innings where they ran down next 11 overs without any further wicket and kept the run rate alive close to 10 all the time. Late fire works from Bhajji and Mclaren ensured Mumbai got their highest ever IPL total, bettering their previous best 202 vs Chennai in 2008.  Mascarenes and Uniyal picked couple of wickets each for Rajasthan Royals… Another thing, which would not have pleased warne is their 16 extras…

Chasing a target of over 10 per over, Rajasthan didnt make a much impression, losing Swapnil in the very second ball of their innings,  later Smith and rest in top 4 kept playing around him, in the half way make, RR were 69/4, needing 144 in the last 10 overs… Many would have said, it game Mumbai, but one tall man in Rajasthan had different ideas, Anyone who has seen his batting, would have said one word, BIZARRE… a blitzkrieg unleashed by Pathan over Mumbai Indians, Sachin and his bowlers ran out ideas, as rajsthan started marching and believed that they could win, and in the process , Yusuf Pathan Reached his century just in 37 balls, (i just remembered afridi scoring the same in his earlier days), such a class inninngs came to a drastic end, losing himself out of the crease on the other end. shud say, good work by R.Sathish… (may tats wat they call it turning point)… Dogra who supported him on the other end tried to keep Rajasthan hopes alive, before Two veteran last over specialist’s Malinga and Zaheer dented their hope and showed Mumbai their first victory of this season… Eventhough the margin is meager 4 runs, it all counts.. and Sachin would take it any day after seeing such a disastrous innings from a young man…

In the end its 2 points in the table for Mumbai Indians and warne men would have felt the pinch of their costly 16 extras, even 4 less could have won the match for them…

Match 3 Review:

Kings XI Punjab Vs Delhi Daredevils

Kings XI have their new Skipper Sangakarra, replacing local boy Yuvraj,  as well Delhi have their new skipper Gambhir coming in place his co partner Shewag. So both the new captain went out for toss and after a small confusion on Head and Tails in the coin, Gambhir won the toss and decided to Field first… And his bowlers, did oblige to his decision picking 4 quick wickets in quick succession, leaving KXIP trailing 44/4 in 6 overs. Later its Pathan and Bopara who paced a placid innings and got the run rate slowly up close to 8, but once Pathan departed, they wickets tumbled and in the end, few funny shot selections by tail enders (esp Sreesanth)entertained all, and reached a score of 142 losing 9 wickets.

Just Like the same Punjab innings, Delhi too had a worst start, losing both the openers in the second over itself, sreesanth being the star bowler picking both. Gambhir joined ab devillers for a short while of 35 runs, later joined Dinesh karthik for another 34 run partnership, But the Main partnership came between Skipper Gambhir and Mithun Manhas at the important time, they bith rotated the strike slowly, and took necessary risk at times, to gather a partnership of  61 runs, which virtually took the game out of punjab’s hand… U can really appreciate Punjab to make a game out of a very very moderate total, but u have to blame them, for not taking many chances given by delhi, i guess, nearly half a dozen chances are spilled out, in the form of run outs and catches.  Nevertheless Sangakarra tried to pull the rabbit out the hat, But in the end, Delhi Skipper had his answer for it… Delhi went back smiling taking their first win of the season 3.

Standings as on DAY 2:

Interesting facts of Day 2:

Yususf Pathan Scored the Fastest and his Maiden century in IPL… (100 in 37 balls), It is also the first century for Rajsthan Royals.
(FYI – Andrew symonds holds the Fastest T20 century with 34 balls)

– 212 scored by Mumbai Indians is theri best IPL total, bettering previous best 202 vs chennai, in 2008.

– This is the first time a IpL century goes in Vain, without winning the game for the team.

– 16 extras by Rajasthan Royals was their highest in all the IPL season.(Kolkatha tops the list with 28 extras)

– Y.Pathan leads for Orange cap as of now, with 100 runs.

– With this century, Yusuf  go past smith, who has been the leading run getter for Rajasthan’s…
Yusuf tops with 778 runs and smith follows with 679.

– Mumbai was the first team went with only 3 Foreign players for a match, which is the first time in IPL…

– Gambhir scored his highest score (72) as Captain, his IPl best being 86.

– Gambhir also scored his 7th IPL fifty.

– Ironically, Delhi Notched up, just their 2nd win against KXIP, out of 5 games played (40%). Which is the lowest against any IPL team by Delhi.

Thats the end of the gr8 day in IPL… Tomorrow its Chennai’s Game waiting for it…. Good Night Folks…

IPL 3: Match 1 Review: – DC’s Vs KKR’s

March 13, 2010 at 12:34 am (IPL, IPL 3) (, , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi guys,

IPL 3 is back in India – Ravi Shastri Said these words upfront b4 anything could Begin…. Yes it is,…. And i am back with my Blog updates…

Match 1 Review:
Deccan Chargers Vs Kolkata Knight Riders:

First Match of the Season 3… Its defending Champions Deccans Vs Wooden Spoon Winners Kolkata…

Dada Back as Captain for KKR… Is this gonna be the change of fortunes for KKR’s…?

But it didnt look as the game begin, Gilly won the Toss and decided to Field First, and his decision seems to gr8, as KKR’s lost Manoaj Tiwari in the very first ball of the match and came in New Skipper Dada to take his one more long walk after 3 balls edging one to slips… Scorecard read 0/2 at the end of First Over. Chaminda Vaas being the facilitator.  Brad Hodge and Pujara showed hope but perished to poor shots, as they departed score read 31/4… Then came in the Big partnership between Srilankan Angelo Matthews and English man Owsis Shah… Both Played a brilliant Innings as  they placed the innings beautifully right from the worst place to the much better position with 130 run Partnership. Both Saved KKR from a biggest disappointment. Deccan Bowling was good kept in the right line and length, Gilly would have taken 161 any day in a very good batting pitch…

KKR 161/4 in 20 overs
Angelo Mathews 65*       Owasis Shah 58*
Chaminda Vaas 2/22       RP Singh 1/35

DC 150/7 in 20 overs
Gilchrist 54     Laxman 22
M.Karthik 1/17    Langveldt 2/26
KKR WON MATCH BY 11 RUNS

Defending a OK type total in a Batting Pitch is always hard, Deccan’s Started off in a flyer as they went with a run rate of 10 per over. they were 62/1 after the first 6 overs. Deccans were right in the game till the first half, with ten overs gone, they were 99/1, with Gilly and Gibbs in the crease.  But it all turned upside down in the next 30 mins time, as Deccans crumbled one by one by playing the bizarre shots u could ever see… Rohit sharma being the best out of all… In the end its Dada’s Men who kept calling the shots and they swept the game by 11 runs. Dada kept rotating the bowlers very well to keep the batmen to check his shots every now and then. Overall a Superp Start for Last year’s Last team to take down the defending champions.

Interesting facts on IPL 3 – Day 1

Few First’s of IPL 3…

First wicket – Manoaj tiwari – Bowler  Vaas

First Maiden – Chaminda Vaas

First wide – Jaskaran Singh of DC

First boundary – Pujara – KKR of RP Singh

First six – Brad Hodge – KKR of RP Singh

First Free Hit – Angelo mathews to Gibbs resulted in no run.

– Chaminda Vaas became the first bowler to bowl first over wicket maiden in IPL.

– Gilchrist Scored his 7th IPL fifty

– Angelo Matthews scored his Maiden fifty, his previous best was 16.

– Dada scored his 5th duck in IPL.

Thats all for the day… Happy weekend guys…
