IPL 5: Day 45 – Table toppers secure their lead to meet in Qualifier…

May 20, 2012 at 12:10 am (Cricket, IPL, IPL 2012, IPL 5) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi all,

A day before the close of the league games of this season of IPL.

Match 69:

Kings XI Punjab Vs Delhi Daredevils

Kings need to win this game atleast to be in the contention for the Play off’s, Delhi will look to secure the top spot, which give them a chance more for them to take the cup.

Dharmasala it is, Delhi won the toss and decided to field first. KIXP was left to taste their own medicine, which they offered CSK couple of days back, this time Umesh Yadav, Varun Aaron & Morne Morkel provided it to KXIP as they were tottering at 20/4 in 5 overs. How ever Chitnis, & Azhar Mahamood played a sensible innings in the middle and late surge from Gurkreet ensure KXIP finished with a decent 141 runs on the board.

For team like Delhi who are mostly Batting heavy, 140 was always gonna be easy, and if Warner was in the mood just like today, least could be spoke about other, as Warner himself won the game for Delhi, In the end V Rao did some finishing off’s to win the game and end the league stage on a high note.

Delhi Daredevils won the game by 6 wickets with 10 balls to spare…

Match 70:

Pune Warriors India Vs Kolkata Knight Riders

KKR need to win this to ensure their second position, on the other hand, Pune wants to finish with a win infront of the home crowd. Also this win will ensure that even if Deccan’s win tomorrow Pune don’t end up being the wooden spooners.

KKR won the toss and decided to Bat first, All of a sudden PWI bowled really well and their fielding was too good, which meant KKR reached their 50 runs in 10.5 overs. Having McCullum in the crease for this long time. But Shakib switched himself to power mode which gave necessary impetus KKR looked for and Run rate came back very fast. Shakib finshed with 42 and McCullum finished with 41 runs. KKR finished with 136/4 in 20 overs.

Needing to win to end their losing streak, PWI started with a boundary, but they hardly didn’t know that was going to be their only Boundary for the entire innings. Jesse Ryder got couple of Big hits over the fence and that’s all to say, as others walked past the crease and gone before u could read their names in full. PWI finished with a dismal 102/8 in 20 overs.

KKR won the match by 34 runs…

Standings as on DAY 45:

From the points table we can clearly say, we have just one more slot to fill it in, and two teams in contention is Royal Challengers Bangalore & Chennai Super Kings.

Equation for RCB is quite simple, win the game enter Playoff’s, if you lose the game, better luck RCB we will meet next year, and CSK must the luckiest team ever in IPL history, having 3 other results have gone their way to bring them into Playoff’s.

Interesting facts as on Day 45:

–          Umesh Yadav bowled the 26th Maiden of IPL 5.

–          4/20 is the best figures for Morne Morkel in this season of IPL, and now undisputedly he leads the wicket takers list.

–          Andre Russell became the 7th Bowler & 8th time to concede more 50 runs in the four overs bowled, other were Amit Singh, M Gony, A Nehra, M Patel, Vinay Kumar (twice) & M Morkel.

–          Second time for KXIP to get lost in the same venue (Dharmasala) which eventually taken them out of competition.

–          1 Boundary & 2 sixes are the only boundaries scored by Pune Warriors India which means just 16 runs came of boundaries is the lowest ever in IPL history. Ironically, previous lowest runs scored in boundary is also by Pune Warriors 32 runs (5 fours & 2 sixes).

–          94 balls without boundary is the highest ever in IPL history. Pune’s last boundary came in 4.2 overs when Jesse Ryder smoked one over long off, unfortunately they didn’t know that was their last one for the day.

–          Pune Warriors have now lost nine consecutive matches in this year’s IPL. This is now the new record for the most consecutive defeats in this tournament. Deccan’s previously lost 8 in a row.

–          With loss for KXIP, Mumbai Indians becomes the third team to qualify for the Playoff’s.

–          Delhi Daredevils have won 9 games while batting first in this season, out of their 11 wins.

–          Delhi Daredevils were the team which finished last in IPL 4, and now they finish as the League toppers.

At the end of DAY 45:

No. of Catches dropped for the day – 5

Total no. of Boundaries – 1741

Total no. of Sixes – 662

Longest Six – Chris Gayle – 111,109,106,106 &106 Meters followed by Kieron Pollard – 105 Meters.

IPL 5: Day 34 – Watson’s One Man Show & Mandeep’s Heroics…

May 9, 2012 at 12:35 am (Cricket, IPL, IPL 2012, IPL 5) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi all,

Match 52:

Pune Warriors India Vs Rajasthan Royals

Important game for Dravid to get a win against slightly easier team to beat at this stage rather to face Chennai & Mumbai and decide the place for Play off’s. Dada its time to restore some pride for himself and for his team as well, who knows this very well may be his last season of IPL.

Ganguly won the toss and decided to bat first, Finally Dada back to his place, opened the innings along with Aussies counter part Clarke, didn’t click for long, Dada departed just before powerplay for 14 runs of 16 balls. To say i can’t write anything much about anyone as everyone was struggling to get the ball out of the pitch, Majumadar who play two exquisite shots which are the only two sixes for Pune innings.  Credit to Rajasthan bowlers as well, they have been fantastic bowled to their field and plan. Tait,Botha & Binny were too good on the day. As Pune finished their innings with 125/6 in 20 overs which had only 5 fours and 2 sixes.

Chasing a score close to 6 an over is a cake walk, but u never know, just when we thought that Smith pulled off a blinder to remove inform Rahane to remove for a duck. Dravid was also out too soon, but Watson decided to make it a one man show and he did as well. He pummelled 10 fours and 4 sixes to score 90 runs in just 51 balls and sealed the match for Rajasthan Royals in 16.2 overs. All to say Just man was there in second innings and it is Shane Watson from Australia.

Rajasthan Royals won the game by 7 Wickets with 22 balls to spare…

Match 53:

Deccan Chargers Vs Kings XI Punjab

Same as Rajasthan important game for Kings XI Punjab who is also at 10 points need this win to be in the tournament with tough games coming up especially a couple against Delhi, too tough to say though. On the other side take away two points team at this stage for any opponent in IPL 5.

Deccan’s won the toss and decided to field first, Thankfully KXIP obliged and got to a flying start with Marsh & Mandeep with 55 runs in 6 odd overs. Mandeep’s brilliance in batting was quite clearly displayed as he despatched the DC bowlers in ease, excellent textbook shot as well, with 8 fours and 3 hits over the fence Mandeep finally missed a straighter one trying to slog, while he was at 75 runs. Miller gave the late surge to boost KXIP total as it looked inflate enough to fly away for victory. 170/5 in 20 overs.

Deccan Chargers didn’t show much hope in chasing the score, as they they 2 wickets for 31 runs, fromthen Dr.Harris & White tried to come back in the game with 40 odd runs partnership, but KXIP stand in skipper decided to bowl just one over in which he picked both the set batsmen to pavilion. Batsmen who came down the order just played out, to be fair to them pitch was quite uneven in the bounce as well. they can’t do much about it. In the end DC finished with 145/8 in 20 overs.

KXIP won the game by 25 runs.

Standings as on DAY 34:

Interesting facts as on Day 34:

–           5 fours and 2 sixes a total of just 32 runs scored by Pune warriors in boundary is the lowest runs scored in boundaries.

–          90* is the highest score for Shane Watson bettering 89 not out in season 1.

–          Pune Warriors didn’t bowl even a single extra for a day.

–          Anustip Majumdar made his IPL debut for Pune Warriors India.

–          Rajasthan’s 22 balls victory is the highest ever by any other team other than Delhi daredevils who top the list with better than this. List goes as 40, 31, 28 & 24 balls.

–          75 runs for Mandeep singh is the highest score in IPL career.

At the end of DAY 34:

No. of Catches dropped for the day – 3

Total no. of Boundaries – 1282

Total no. of Sixes – 490

Longest Six – C. Gayle – 111 & 106 Meters followed by K. Pollard – 105 Meters

IPL 5: Day 31 – Eden takes down Dada & Dravid’s Double R back in track…

May 6, 2012 at 12:11 am (Cricket, IPL, IPL 2012, IPL 5) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi all,

Double header Saturday…

Match 47:

Kolkata Knight Riders Vs Pune Warriors India

Prince of Kolkata returns to his home ground Eden Garden as the opposition skipper, Must Win situation, a lose here will put Pune Warriors out of contention for this year’s IPL. KKR on a winning roll, will like to continue the same without doubt.

Gambhir won the toss and without any hesitation decided to bat first, and got off to one of the best starts for this season, When Gambhir departed to a well made fifty, KKR were 113/1 in 12.3 overs. McCullum followed skipper soon, Some tight bowling & brilliant fielding kept KKR under pressure and runs dried up totally. Eventually KKR finished with 150/5 in 20 overs. Dada would be very happy as they restricted KKR under the par score, for Pune, Mathews was the strike bowler.

Clarke opened the innings with Uthappa, but even before both could get started Marchant de Lange who is playing his first game for this season picked up both the openers. For some reason Dada didn’t come to bat upfront and kept him at the back, may be he was avoiding to bat in front of his home crowd, but that was not the case as Pune Warriors fell like pack of cards, with score 55/5 in 8 overs and Ganguly had to walk in as the 7th Batsmen. To speak genuinely he was more than OK than the other games he played. He along with Mathews tried to bring back Pune into game and they almost did as well. Both brought the game so close as 24 needed from 16 balls one stage, but its the mystery off-spinner Sunil Narine again who has been main tormentor for Pune, as he picked 4-1-13-1. As the wickets fell at wrong time and Pune fell 7 runs short to victory.

KKR won the match by 7 runs.

Match 48:

Rajasthan Royals Vs Kings XI Punjab

Again a must win game for Royals, Dravid won the toss and decided to bat first, to note on front, they made five changes with respect to the last game. They dropped Shah & Hogg to get Shaun Tait & Botha back in squad. Rahane failed early today as he was gone for 5 runs. But Skipper continued where he left, scored another 46 runs along side with Watson’s 36, Menaria’s 34. Late strike from Hodge got Royals to 177/6 in 20 overs. Ryan Harris picked up 4 wickets, Thanks to Shaun marsh who plucked two impossible catches.

KXIP started off in a wrong note as Mandeep fell in the second over, Saini as well didn’t stick too long, perished for Shaun Tait’s pace. Double strike came in the consecutive overs, for Royals were Hussey mistimed one to long on and Marsh next over missed a straight forward ball to hear sound of timber. Scorecard read 59/4 in 8 overs. From then on it was kind of ritual that KXIP has to play out, no excitement what so ever. Azhar tried few gimmicks for some time along with debutant Gurkreet Singh. Nothing much though as KXIP folded out for 134/8 in 20 overs.

Rajasthan Royals won the game by 43 runs…

Standings as on DAY 31:

Interesting facts as on Day 31:

–          Sunil Narine & Shane Watson bowled the 16th & 17th Maidens of this season, both being wicket maidens.

–          19 extras bowled by Pune Warriors equalled the highest no. of extras bowled in a match along with Kings XI Punjab & Royal Challengers Bangalore.

–          When Ganguly scored 6 runs, he went past to score 500 runs in Eden gardens.

–          With a loss against KKR, Now Pune Warriors India lost 5 games in a row.

–          Shane Watson scored 1000 runs in IPL and incidentally he is the quickest to achieve this feat.

–          Dravid has gone past 25 runs or more in his last 8 consecutive innings including this one.

–          73 sixed conceded by Piyush CHawla is the most no. of sixes conceded by a bowler in IPL so far.

–          Gurukreet Singh made his IPL debut for KXIP.

–          Shaun Marsh on 11 went past 600 runs in Mohali ground.

–          Rajasthan Royals have never lost a game when they have scored 160+ runs, and the record continues to stay.

–          44 runs scored in the last 9 overs by KKR is the lowest scored by KKR in the IPL history so far.

–          8 catches dropped for the day is the highest ever for this season, Royals – 3, KXIP – 1 and Pune topped with 4.

–          Rahul Dravid scored the 50th boundary of this season.

At the end of DAY 31:

No. of Catches dropped for the day – 8

Total no. of Boundaries – 1144

Total no. of Sixes – 439

Longest Six – Chris Gayle – 111 & 106 Meters followed by Kieron Pollard – 105 Meters.

Most no. of Fours – A.Rahane (60) followed by V.Shewag (51)

IPL 5: Day 29 – Mumbai edge past Pune in a Low scorer…

May 4, 2012 at 1:02 am (Cricket, IPL, IPL 2012, IPL 5) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi All,

Match 45:

Mumbai Indians Vs Pune Warriors India

Pune who is already in a losing streak, if they didn’t put a brake at this juncture, playoff’s will be out of reach even before they could think. Mumbai need this win to put back themselves strong in the top4.

Ganguly spun the coin, but Bhajji won it to bat first,  once again Franklin & Sachin gave a 50 runs partnership between them. Once they had to depart, Mumbai found themselves a way to dig themselves in a deep hole, as they were 93/7 in 16 overs. Late swings by Malinga by Bat this time, ensured Mumbai got 120 runs on board.

Pune Warriors had 2 points written all over it to for taking, Uthappa wasted the opportunity, and followed his fellow opener Ryder with a poor shot. Clarke was quite unlucky to have a poor decision going against his wish. Smith who was the saviour until was also departed to a Ojha’s spin. Task was cut out in the hands of Skipper Ganguly & Mithun Manhas who were the last recognised batting pair to take them home in front of their home crowd. A big failure from Ganguly which meant 16 runs from 24 balls without rotating strike to Manhas created more pressure in one end, With Malinga bowling at the death, you can’t ask more, he too departed leaving the rest to finish match, which other almost came close were they fell short by just 1 runs. Malinga’s death bowling got him the Man of the match.

JUST 1 RUN… Dada one single out off 11 dot balls game could have been Pune’s…

Mumbai Indians won the game by 1 run…

Standings as on DAY 29:

Interesting facts as on Day 29:

–          Ashok Dinda bowled the 15th Maiden of this season.

–          This is the 16th game for this season which went for the last over.

–          Both Sachin & Franklin opened the innings for Mumbai on three occasions and on all of those they were able to get a 50 runs partnership between them.

–          Second time this season has got a 1 run victory, previous one was between Delhi & Rajasthan, were Delhi scampered by 1 run.

–          120 runs is the lowest score defended for this season, they bettered KXIP’s 135 runs defended against KKR.

–          120 runs defended was the 3rd lowest in IPL, 116 runs by CSK & 119 by KXIP are the other two.

–          Harbhajan Single picked up his second Golden duck for this season.

Mumbai Indians Vs Kings XI Punjab

KXIP needs to win this game to be in the pool of points table, and they will face a mighty task though. Mumbai won the toss and decided to bat first, having brought Sachin back into the squad. Match 28

Need a good start to steady the innings Saini & Mandeep gave them the one, as they took 48 runs in first 6 overs. After both the openers made their way back both Aussies Hussey & Marsh built a solid partnership in the middle overs. Dhawan scored a fifty for himself, but none of the batsmen looked threatening, to say not even comfortable, as DC finished with 126/7 in 20 overs, Much lesser than the par score. Balaji & Lee were terrific with their pace bowling, as Lee amazed with 4 over 15/1.

Match 29

Knight riders had a easy chase in their hands, as always Steyn stepped up to the occasion picked up some wickets up front, but with the score like 126 u can’t do much, as KKR chased easily with 1 over and 5 wickets spare. IPL 5: Day 18–Captain Cool’s Coolness & Red Hot Dada seal the day…

April 22, 2012 at 12:14 am (Cricket, IPL, IPL 2012, IPL 5) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi All,

Another double header day in IPL 5…

Match 26:

Chennai Super Kings Vs Rajasthan Royals

Having won the last two games Chennai will look to continue their winning stance, with this win it will be three in a row for them in their fortress Chepauk. Royals will like to ease the things and go for a win.

Dravid won the toss and decided to bat first, Not much from the openers just gave a regular opening stand between Dravid & Rahane. Innings mattered came from Owasis Shah and Ashok Menaria who stitched a 92 runs partnership between them, Even though wickets were in hand for Royals they failed to accelerate the scores, thanks to some good bowling from Kulasekara. Royals finished the innings with 146/3 in 20 overs.

Match 26

Less then 7.5 runs/over to chase, CSK had another good opening partnership between Faf & Badri, and later Faf joined Raina to propel the scorecard slowly and steadily. Royals kept themselves in the hunt always by not gifting to many runs and by some tight fielding. All of a sudden both the set batsmen Raina & Faf gone in the same over, which brought Bravo & Dhoni in the crease, Captain cool got the match to tense up and waited till the last ball to steal the victory, It has now become an habit for Dhoni and he seems to be doing just fine, other than keeping his fans heart in their mouth. CSK won the game by 7 wickets…

Match 27:

Pune Warriors India Vs Delhi Daredevils

Last year Wooden Spooners Delhi is the table toppers for this season, what a change of fortunes for them, They seems to be almost unbeatable with Bowling lead front by Morne Morkel & Pathan. Dada having lost their last two games, need to win this back to get back on track.

Pune Lost Uthappa early, but Skipper Ganguly joined with Ryder to get into a very important partnership to get PWI to a big score. They share 93 runs between them, late assault from Smith and Ryder made sure PWI reach their highest total for this season of IPL. Ryder got himself out in the last over with 86 to his name.Smith got a quick 34 from13 balls. PWI finished with 192/3 in 20 overs.

Match 27

Having to chase down a mammoth, Shewag & co started very cautiously and very soon they lost Jayawardene for a nothing shot, Later both Shewag & Pietersen  broke loose after couple of overs, as runrate started to creep up and went on & on, until Pune’s Skipper Ganguly decided to take the matter to his own hands and oh boy, didn’t he have a golden arm as he removed Pietersen of the very first delivery he bowled, later he added Irfan also to his account, as he finished with 2/27 in 20 overs. Shewag too perished to bring down the creeping run rate and Murali Karthik being the beneficiary. Ross Taylor & Yogesh nagar tried to avoid the inevitable, but some good death bowling kept DD under the target and they faced their second defeat of this season. As PWI won the match by 20 runs. Royal Challengers Bangalore Vs Kings XI Punjab

Both teams languishing at the bottom of the table and who ever wins this will join the middle level battle of 6 pointers. Vettori won the toss and decided to chase for the day. With Gilly (Hamstring Injury) missing out David Hussey did the skipper job.

As always KXIP had a poor start, as they were 2 down in no time, and score card was below 30 and five overs gone, Hussey & Marsh tried to resurrect the things around, Marsh failed earlier than expected, Hussey rode on luck for some time and eventually passing out to a inside edge on 41, New Entrant Azhar mahmood had a go at the end to get KXIP to a score of 164/6 in 20 overs.

Match 25

RCB got off to a dreadful start any would even dream off, they were 25/3 in 5 overs, Leaving Gayle & AB to do the job, KXIP felt it would be game if they can pick any one of the batsmen in the crease, but that’s what they failed to do, until both the batsmen put on a 131 runs partnership between them. Both played with elegance more than power, it was a delight to watch these as they picked the games in precision, and Gayle’s power was unleashed now and then to keep the run rate at control. KXIP struck late with couple of blows, and it was way over, and finally McDonald & Vettori finished the formalities to go up to 6 points in the table. along with 4 others with 6 points each.

IPL 5: Day 16 – Pietersen trounces Deccan & Dhoni levels Dada…

April 20, 2012 at 11:57 pm (Cricket, IPL, IPL 2012, IPL 5) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi all,

Having missed to write about Day 15 in IPL 5, nothing much as gone past though. As KKR picked up their 3rd win for the season, skipper Gambhir being the role model as he lead from front with a match knock 66* from 44 balls.

Match 22:

Kolkata Knight Riders Vs Kings XI Punjab

Earlier KXIP failed to impress, though they had a win over the same opponent couple of days back. Gilly’s Hamstring didn’t help the course for KXIP as well. How ever KXIP finished with 124/7 in their 20 overs.

KKR chased with ease, Skip scored 66* and well aided by Kallis with 30*, Gambhir will finally have a laugh in face after having losing the close games. Unfortunately this was never a one, as it ended with 21 balls to spare.

Coming to Day 16….

Match 23:

Delhi Daredevils Vs Deccan Chargers

Another day with different set of options for Deccan Chargers but the result didn’t have much change, It was the same as the three before, but it would have been very different if not for a man called Pietersen from England, who changed the course of Delhi daredevils and went to score his Maiden T20 century in 64 balls to win the game for Delhi.

Match 24:

Chennai Super Kings Vs Pune Warriors India

Having won the previous encounter Dada will look to take it 2-0 up against the last year champions. But he knew it would be difficult to take down lions in their own den Chepauk. And it was the case to be…

Chennai made three changes in their line up, very rare sight though, they dropped Yo Mahesh, Albie Morkel (have to leave, due to unexpected demise of his friend back in SA ) & Murali Vijay who find it very hard to fit into the opening line up. New Opening pair, Faf & Badrinath walked with confident and gave the best opening stand for the IPL 5, with 116 between them. Late assault from Dhoni,Bravo & Jadeja ensured CSK got 164/5 in 20 overs.

Pune warriors knew this isn’t going to be an easy chase, it became more difficult when man of the match Kulasekara’s spell sent both the opener back into hut with in 4 overs time, from then on every one got a start but regular strike by Chennai bowlers kept Pune under control all the time, and never eased. Finally Dhoni & co leveled Dada’s men 1-1 all to win the game by 13 runs.

IPL 5: Day 11 – Dada take down MSD & Co.,

April 15, 2012 at 12:59 am (Cricket, IPL, IPL 2012, IPL 5) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi all,

Match 16:

Chennai Super Kings Vs Pune Warriors India

It may look fast as CSK keep on getting their matches faster than any other team, yep, It was their 5th game for this season, much before than any other team…

As Dhoni takes on Dada for the first time this season,  Dhoni won the coin finally and decided to put score on board. Start was as always good for him, thanks to F.du Plessis again, Murali Vijay 5 disappointing games on a trot for him now. Raina, Dhoni played more to say a sedated innings just by knocking around singles, credit should go to PWI bowlers, as they used the depth of the crease to good extend and never allowed CSK batsmen to get under the ball. Jadeja, tried to up the antiques and gone, but still did the job, scoring 44 from 26 balls. Its Dhoni the culprit who scored less than run a ball, scoring 26 from 28 balls. Simply its not his day. However CSK ended 155/5 in 20 overs.

Chasing 156 in Uthappa & Ganguly, made suicidal second run attempts and sacrificed their wickets for nothing, But its man from New Zealand, who stood their from the very first ball to till the end, Jesse Ryder scored 73* of 56 balls. which really changed the complexion of the game. Not to forget Blitzkrieg from Steven Smith, who smacked 44 from22 balls, at important time, and made sure Australianism in CSK doesn’t prevail them this time from crossing the winning line.

PWI won the match by 7 wicket and 4 balls to spare and go to the top of the table.

Standings as on DAY 11:

Interesting Facts as on Day 11:

–          Ashok Dinda became the first bowler to bowl a No ball for over stepping, he bowled not once but twice in the same over.

–          On Both free hits Chennai managed only to score singles, once by Dhoni & other by Raina.

–          Second time in this season, a game has ended on 19.2 overs, with 4 balls to spare, other one was yesterday, when KKR chased 132 against Royals.

–          PWI won their first matching chasing of this season; other two victories came batting first.

–          Dhoni finally won the toss after losing 4 in a row.

At the end of DAY 11:
