Rise of ITC in Food’s Business…

September 18, 2009 at 1:52 am (Experiences) (, , , , , )

Hi guys,

After the end of 2 months laborious training in ITC’s core product Cigarettes, i am moved to Foods Business, (Aashirvaad Atta and Sunfeast Biscuits). I am saying something wrong here….?

ITC. Tobacco, right? Er, right and wrong.

Wrong,  because it’s also been into hotels for three decades (ah yes, you say), but over the last few years, and pretty much under your nose, it’s become a huge FMCG and lifestyle brand that, even though you buy it (perhaps unknowingly, unconsciously), still surprises you with the breadth of its spread.

Shirts and skirts. Pasta and paper. Biscuits and candy. Soaps and perfumes. Cigarettes too, of course. All ITC products.

India Tobacco Company? Yes, it still drives the business — there wouldn’t be an ITC without the filter tip that earns the company 87 per cent of its revenue.

itcbis001

ITC started diversifying themselves right from the millenium beginning, year 2001, gave Sunfeast a new opening, now, 9 years down the line, it’s a very much equal competitors to Market leader Britannia and Parle, it’s now in 3rd place trailing not too far of parle….

While talking about Atta, it’s even surprising, As we are the market leader in the segment, occupying over 57% share in the Atta market, which sends really a strong msg to the competitors that we aren’t just into business, without a vision.

ITC had the luxury of bending down to the losses but leveraging their profits from cigarettes business, which really helped the foods business to grow upto this stage, today its a 7000 crore business for ITC, so guys, just watchout for few more years to take down the leaders, we aren’t walking, we are marching towards the top….

Y not i am proud to be a part of ITC and its foods Business….?

Successful 60 days in ITC…

September 6, 2009 at 2:23 am (Experiences) (, , , , , )

Hi guys,

With my previous post, u must be knowing by now, that i am into one of the Indian FMCG giant ITC Ltd, …  Past 60 days in ITC has been a gr8 experience and more than that a fantastic learning.

For the past 2 months i was handling Cigarettes where ITC is almost a monopoly, even then , they have to make up the market to defend few other players like VST (Charms) and GTC (Panama).

Even ITC was shaken in Chennai region by the entrance of GPI (Four Square), But was never taken aback, ITC defended their fort with pride driving successfully GPI out of the horizon, Almost after 6 months of struggle GPI was able to capture just below 1% of outlets in Chennai. This shows u shud never mess with the market leader.

How did ITC tackle it…?

I need to answer this too,

ITC builded up a ANTI GPI force in all the Whole dealers Point, This force had AE’s coming all over south India to defend GPI.

Right from the beginning the biggest ever Strength of ITC ltd is their Distribution System, They were present all over even in the petty shops, and ITC has been serving them for ages, so its easy for ITC ppl to convince many outlets not to convert to GPI brand.

Few needed some benefits, so they were given display boards and on shops and few more merchandising works, Merchandising has been very important task of Anti GPI force, they created visibilities in the maximum possible ways all around the city.

In either or the way Outlet is safeguarded by ITC, which left GPI questioning and failing to capture even 1% of the market,  Latest gossip is that GPI is planning to move into other states of TamilNadu too….  I guess atleast in Chennai they cud have got abt some percentage in points. But Sorry GPI guys, i dont think thing tats a good option in other states, as the bonding between salesman and the retail outlet seems to so much closer than the metro Cities.

While talking abt my past 60 days, I worked in 3 places, first in Chennai Metro for abt a week r so, then in Pondicherry abt 3 weeks, and finally a full month in Vellore…. All these places have been different and interesting on its own way…

When u mess with Giants u must be ready to face the consequences, ITC just completed their 99th year and began their progress towards successful 100th year.  Lets wait for that moment, Its on 24th August 2010….  Watch out for it guys….

ICC T20 – Super 8: India Vs West Indies

June 13, 2009 at 1:56 am (ICC T20) (, , , , , , , , , )

Hi guys,

Its Day 7 in ICC T20 2009 tournament, Finally after a week time, its time for Indians to get into real action, they face West Indies in their first game in super 8 in the group E side.

Already South Africa have defeated England to stay in the top position, so this match played a very important role for both the teams. Dhoni on the toss and decided to Bat first, but its men in crimson red who rejoiced the decision of Dhoni as wickets tumbled so fast, as India lost their 3rd wicket as score was just 29. Then Dhoni and and Yuvi did the job of rescuing India from the trouble situation, Later Dhoni perished for a slow 11. Later its time for Y’s to take the show, and they both did in style, but it was bit delayed to take a flourish since India run short of balls. Yuvi departed for a excellent innings of 67. Last over surge by Bhajji gave India to defend on something. Bravo did bowl very well as he picked 4 wickets, in the front both Edwards and Taylor bowled with good pace to put the pressure on India.

hmnb

Chasing a score of 154, Had gayle starting the things in style as he picked two boundaries of Zaheer in the very first over, then Pathan had a break in the first over removing Fletcher for a duck, Later Gayle and Simmons played so sensibly, Bhajji bowled his first over as Maiden against all time blazing Gayle, which is also the tournaments 2nd maiden, which build up the pulse on Caribbean captain and he launched yusuf and went out on a pretty normal ball.  But India should have felt they had the game, but its another man, had different ideas, who just rattled India with the ball came back with bang with Bat, Its Bravo again for Caribbeans as he dismissed all the Indians bowlers to all over the park, he always made sure run rate never touched double figures. Finally two fifty partnership of Bravo seen Caribbean to the safe land, with 8 balls to spare.

Those who have seen the match, we can’t leave it without mentioning one man, He is Bravo… He was so classy, took the risk when ever needed and played the most sensible game to get them a very important win, His inside out shots are so perfect and designed fro style. He took Ojha and Bhajji with ease and never looked out of touch as he walked away with full honor in the end as a well deserving Man of the Match.

In another super 8 game Srilanka Defeated Pakistan by 19 runs. Which means Arch rivals didn’t have a good day in cricket field. :(

Standings of Group E:

sdfgsdfg

As India losing this game, which really make the chart really clear for India as it has two Do or die game infront of them.  First is with England and next is with South Africa (which gonna be the real test)….

ICC T20 Day 2 matches..

June 7, 2009 at 2:34 am (ICC T20) (, , , , , , , , )

hi guys,

Three games on Day 2 of ICC T20 world cup…

Game 4:

India Vs Bangladesh

India won the toss and decided to bat first, Shewag wasn’t fit enough to take the game and he was rested and rohit opened the innings with Gambhir, Both played well right from the front, then when rohit gone after a good knock of 36, Skipper dhoni joined gambhir, but Bangladeshi bowlers bowled really well in the middle overs to keep India so quiet, India scored 112/1 in 15 overs, then when dhoni tried something different he too was back into hut, the the innings which changed the game came from the bat of Yuvi, as he smacked the ball all over park, to score a quick fire 41 of just 18 balls. Other end Gambhir completed his 50 and went back in the very next ball. Later two lusty blows by Irfan got india to a score of 180 in 20 overs. Bowlers did the job to the minimal level, every1 bowled their first 2 overs really well and couldn’t maintain it till the end.

bjgh

Bangladesh chasing a score of 9 an over, looked to march for the target with openers taking chances, soon Dhoni rotated teh change which removed one of the opener. Then asraful and u can name all, came and batted for few minutes, none continued or converted into a little longer innings, which really was the downfall of them. Ojha bowled exceptionally well for India as he picked up 4 wickets in his 4 overs, he also recorded the second best bowling figure by an indian. chart is lead by Rp singh 4/19…

Finally India won the match by 25 runs…

Game 3:

Australia vs West indies

Its a cake walk for west indies as Gayle put up a demolishing show for west indies as they cruised to the target of 170 in just 15 overs. before australia was very well restriced by WI in their bowling and fielding…

Australia won the match by 7 wickets.

Game 2:

Scotland Vs New zealand

Totally affected by rain, which allowed just 7 overs a side, which means, go and come… Scotland to all surprise scored 89 runs in 7 overs.. which also a shock for new zealand, as they didnt expect this assault from them… But New zealand counter attached them in the classic fashion as Jessie Ryder scored a quick fire 31…. and New zealand reached the target with one more over to spare…

New zealand won the match by 7 wickets….

ICC T20: Warm up Game – India Vs Pakistan

June 4, 2009 at 1:36 am (ICC T20) (, , , , , , , , , )

Hi guys,

Its second warm up game between India and Pakistan….

Warm Up Match 2:

India Vs Pakistan

Pakistan won the toss and decided to bat first, and rightly they were off to a flying start, as they raised to 45/0 in 4 overs. All of a sudden Ishant’s 5th over made the turnaround, as 2 wickets fell along with a maiden, and afridi fell very next ball for a duck, which means pakistan stumbles back to 45/4 in 5.1 overs. Total turnaround in 7 balls… Later Younus Khan made the repair work and tried to keep up the run rate, and final work by yasar arafat and Misbah got pakistan toa decent total of 158/6 in 20 overs. Ishant bowled really well and rest did a fair job.

warm

India went on with the same opening pair, Rohit and Gambhir, which really clicked for India, when needed, as these two batsmen looked so much in ease. It really didnt matter for them whether it is a single or four, they played the ball to merit and picked the gaps more perfectly, and not to leave out, who ran fabulously between the wickets, (guess they might have stolen atleast 20 runs). Rohit just ran out of energy when India needed 19 to win the match with 4 overs in hand, skipper joined the party and along with another half centurion, match ended with a Wide, which has been also a real problem , pak conceeded 17 extras which is not a good sign.

Both bowling and fielding looked so lethargic and rusty, hope they recover before their first game versus England on Sunday.

In the end, Summary read, India won the match by 9 Wickets with 18 balls to spare…

Which also kept the record straight which means, India has been never ever defeated by Pakistan in a world cup game. (both 50 overs and T20 game)… Hope it keeps going…. Chak de India….

DMS-SOM – Making of Farewell Video…

June 2, 2009 at 3:20 am (DMS-SOM, Experiences) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi guys,

Its again a mystery how come we did this video and to gods grace, v did it again, with gr8 lot of effort than the last time and made it a memorable one for all the batch of 2007-2009 DMSians…

As all i rememeber its the first week of March, and i was having a very much tight schedule of exams for the whole week, in the middle myself, pradhep and prasanna used to chat abt making this video and what can be the concept and it can be done, many a times, it ended up in vain, bocs v couldnt concentrate much better and weren’t able to make a framework, like last time when we made video for Milan….

for Milan Video, Take this link: http://rams4u.wordpress.com/2008/10/04/a-video-for-my-life-to-remember/

First Phase:

First phase has been collection of stills from all, but not a gr8 support, since all are bugged up with exams and other works, but inspite few gave the backup of the stills, and v gathered it around for more than a week… Idea of formulating how the video shud be, was no way close as v r seperated by exam time table and i used to stay in hostel during exams and my team mates prefer staying in home. It went on as we gathered stills around these closing days with SBM cam , Prasanna’s Cam, Arun’s Handy cam and also my mobile….

Second Phase:

After making up the full collection, finally pradhep came out with the idea for making the credits, it looked good but was so tough, but in 2 days time v were able to that, farewell was getting so closer (12th march), but v were no way nearer to finish the video, finally started the full swing work on 11th night in prasanna’s home, i shifted my CPU to his home and started working for the whole day night, about 3 to 4 in the morning prasanna wasn’t satisfied with the way video has come out, then v searched the net for farewell video and seen few, which really helped our morale as they were very much normal and our video looked much better. finally satisfied prasanna and myself worked till 7 in de morning and left pradhep to work and we both went to sleep, woke up back by 10 in the morning, time was clicking, and we were just 50% done, then prasanna’s got some food for us from his relative house an v all very much hungry and finished the things off and continued to work till evening 7.30 and finally made the video. Then took my system back to my home and copied the video in the pen drive and rushed to farewell(it has started by 6.30 itself) and reached the dept by 8… (In the middle traffic police men wasted 10 mins for checking out license and those stuffs….)

Third Phase:

Video was played and as we expected everyone liked it, and it set the tone for farewell as many felt bad of leaving such a beautiful place. and the lines of vairamuthu came true (Kanneril thaney engal Farewell party).  since we made the video in a real hurry, it had few mistakes and needed editing again, which means, just my part was left to trim it up, after few days, myself and pradhep thought v could add the farewell sequence(last scene b4 credits) also (since it wasn’t ter in the version 1.00)…. Yep we finally worked on it and made the necessary things for it and the video is ready, we displayed it in the bus while we were on to a tour to mahabalipuram its version 1.20.

Final Phase:

Even in the video displayed in the bus, had few errors, which was visible only to creators eyes and this time its me alone worked on it for abt another 5 to 6 hours and made it look as it is now… Which u can name it Version 1.40… and i was planning to update it for a long time but due to time constarint i wasn’t able to do it.  Finally today got some time converted the video in the flv format and uploaded in the youtube, Now i can be assured that these beautiful days cant be erased from the memories and in the world of Internet…. Thanks to google for that…. But it has asked me to split into 3 parts with 10 mins time limit. which took some time again to make it up with correcting the sequence and aligning perfectly with the time limit. All made perfectly…. Here it is for u…

First Part:

Second Part:

Third Part:

While typing this all 2 years of my college life has gone past my eyes, really THOSE WERE THE BEST DAYS OF MY LIFE….

ICC T20: Warm Up Game- India Vs New Zealand

June 2, 2009 at 1:45 am (ICC T20) (, , , , , )

Hi guys,

After a very long IPL season, players back in action for second edition of T20 world cup.

Its just a warm up game here…

India Vs New Zealand

Not a gr8 to pen, Just pretty ordinary bowling in the depth by India allowed black cats to score 170 in 20 overs. Ross picked few shots outside off stump to clear the ropes, (nostalgic of IPL 2)… Ishant bowled his heart out picking 4 wickets and rest just warmed up a bit….

icc warm up

Chasing them, Started well Rohit going for shots, and gambhir still failing to get his touch back, but turn around came when India failed to pick Vettori’s first over losing 2 quick wickets in the same (Dhoni and Rohit), later raina and jadeja tried their luck to make it up, but in the end good bowling in depth restricted India to 161/6.

Which means New Zealand wins the match by 9 runs. and another interesting thing is India have never beaten Nz in a T20 game. Hope it turns around in the league stage games.

IPL 2: Final.. Its DC Vs RBC..

May 25, 2009 at 3:55 am (IPL) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi Guys,

Its Gr8 finals of DLF IPL 2009…

What a month this has been, every day action , thrill and nothing more u could expect.  Every evening v had a treat to enjoy. Every cricket fan would have enjoyed the past 38 days…

IPL 2 Finals:

Royal Challengers Bangalore Vs Deccan Chargers

First a word on both teams, Last year these two teams bagged the position of 7th and 8th respectively. Just a turnaround fortune’s (guess i cant say that) this year as of  now  they are into finals, eliminating, the top two teams who  lead the standings table for most of the times (Delhi and Chennai).

Finally its time for finals, and two captains came together for toss and Kumble won the toss and decided to continue his successful chasing record, Gilly wasn’t worried much abt losing toss, he pointed that he would like to score 160 to 170 to put pressure on the opposition.

Kumble himself started the proceedings for Challengers, and what a way to start, they had Gilly the dangerous man right in the very first over for a duck… Skipper undoing a Skipper… What a way to start the things for RCB, later suman also fell, feeling the pressure… Later Symonds had few shots punching inside and outside the ground, but all those were like daggers in the heart of Rahul dravid, has he dropped a sitter in slips when he was in 5,  finally he went on to make 33, but it needed lion hearted kumble to pick the batsmen again, captain leading from the front. at 10 overs timing, they were just 62/3…. RCB felt really good in the score.. Both Gibbs and Rohit began the second off the deccans innings with caution and started milking the singles and doubles by picking the gaps,  Finally sharma broke the shatters and slashed one over the ropes, but he was very soon done by the Kumble’s brilliant bowling effort, two balls later venugopal also fell for Jumbo’s magic… On the other hand, Gibbs went slow and steady and scored his 4th IPL 50, a timely knock from the player who opened the innings and stayed till the end… Its always good see any one of the opener fails, other compensating for the loss… Finally few hard running between giibs and Harris allowed DC to reach a par score of 143/6 in 20 overs.

Bowling, RCB bowlers are pretty happy and felt they did the job, and absolutely they have did the job, and its batsmen to get those runs…

finals

Kallis and Manish Pandey started the innings for RCB,  Harries started well with a another first over maiden (remember he also a bowled a first over two wicket maiden in semi finals.). Kallis went for few good looking shot, but its purple cap holder, who took the revenge by pitching one shot and Kallis mishitting to stumps. Later Van de merwe, really eased the nerves of RCB as he pulled, drove and took the bowlers to some vicious shots, but not before foxed by Ojha, who also removed Manish pandey cheaply for just 4. by 10 overs time, RCB are 69/3 with dravid and taylor in crease, RCB felt they have a certain chance of winning, even if these two cary for another 5 overs, but it didnt happen, as dravid went for an expensive paddle shot and finally losing the stumps to harmeet singh, But taylor didnt give up as he pulled Ojha for a six and brought the run rate down, but It the over os symonds which changed the whole course of the game, which had a Ross mistiming his pull and very next ball, Virat Kohli losing his balance in crease and Gilly isn’t a person who could miss those… Double strike left RCB speechless and optionless as the runrate was also creeping slowly to 12 and above…  Boucher and Praveen fell very soon then but Uthappa and Vinay kumar holded for few mins and gave a hope for RCB that they could make it… But its the purple cap owner, who came to the occasion and bowled a very tidy last over to all DC to win by 6 runs in the END….

trophy

Oh man What a finals and What a closing ceremony for IPL 2009, which was really amazing and hats of IPL team who have made all this happen in a short period of time.  They made a IPL festival for the past 37 days with 59 breath taking matches….  In simple IPL rocked…

IPL 2: Semi Final – 2 Review

May 24, 2009 at 12:49 am (IPL) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi guys,

Its Semi final – 2 in IPL season 2…

Semifinal – 2:

Chennai Super Kings Vs Royal Challengers Bangalore

Two competitive south teams, playing down for finals with another team from south Deccan’s….

Kumble won the toss and decided to chase, since this ground has a very good record in chasing…  Chennai came out well with Parthiv and Hayden, scored 61 runs for the first wicket. in this partnership surprisingly, Patel dominated hayden, very soon opener left the job to Raina and Dhoni, Both these batsmen didn’t find their real class act today, just ran away singles and close two’s… Boundaries are very much rare in their partnership. they sticked till 15 overs with just a score around 110.  It didn’t kick to a huge total in the end, just finishing up to 146 in 20 overs. Which is a par less score in this ground.  Bowling was fantastic, Kumble armoured his men with confidence and made them to feel it…  When u look at the economic rate, you  ll surely  say “All did a brilliant job in a T20 game”.

All came up with the goods, when needed….

sf 2

Chasing moderately low score in this ground, Kallis and inform Manish started the things in boundaries, But Gony struck with a feature touch nick to keeper of Kallis, which signaled the first blow for RBC, very soon Van de Merwe was gone after a catch was dropped by Murali. Leaving 22/2 in 3 overs. RBC was in a spot of bother to say…. But in came the Indian Wall “Dravid” and Young player Manish who responded well under the gr8 man, Both simply played a stunning and match winning innings for RBC. They played the important part of the game with caution and necessary aggression. Which almost sealed them the finals berth. 72 runs Partnership did the trick for them, Chennai could have snicked a slight hope , when they got Dravid and Manish in quick succession, but Ross and Kohli ensured nothing went away from Bangalore… And finally winning the game by 6 wickets, which is also their sixth win in a row… Gr8 going guys… Winning seventh in a row, will be a dream for them…

Interesting facts on IPL 2 Semi finals 2:

- 59/1 is the highest ever score made by Bangalore in their first 6 overs.
- with 572 runs, Matthew Hayden still leads the top of the runs scoring chart. (hope he stays in top) Followed by DC skipper, Gilly who is trailing by 77 runs.
- Murali finishes the table with the best bowling figure for chennai, who’s economy rate is just 5.22.
- CSK had a record of scoring an average 51 runs in their first 6 overs, which they did today too. Which is also the highest average by any team in IPL.
- Ironically in Johannesberg, team chasing won 5 games and team batting first has won just one game till now including this match.
- Bangalore haven’t lost even a single match in this ground, they have defeated Mumbai, Delhi and now Chennai too…
- out of 5 games, Chennai won 2 and Bangalore won 3 as of now.
- Dhoni didnt hit a single boundary in his 30 ball knock 28.
- 475 runs was scored by Chennai for the first wicket in this season.
- 72 runs between Dravid and Manish Pandey recorded the best 3rd wicket partnership for RBC.
- Both Bangalore and Deccan’s are last year’s 7th and 8th position finishers of IPL 2008… Just see the chance of fortunes, now they are in finals… Cricket is a funny game anything can happen to anyone at anytime… Keep ur eyes open… Next year u can see KKR in finals too…
- Kumble has won 7 games out of 9 as a Captain now…

- 59/1 is the highest ever score made by Bangalore in their first 6 overs.

- With 572 runs, Matthew Hayden still leads the top of the runs scoring chart. (hope he stays in top) Followed by DC skipper, Gilly who is trailing by 77 runs.
